re: Spin and Go coaching with Cog Dissonance

Huge huge props to Paul for teaching me how to play poker. I always thought I could, but was proven wrong by my results. I was a BE player for around 800 games. He taught me how to read opponents, which is really what HU is about (or you can say poker in general).

An important thing is not to rely on him, thinking that you will become a winner right away. That's one thing I did wrong. I thought I'd be a winner, and auto-piloted. After what I thought was a "run-bad", I looked over things and realized I wasn't doing what he taught me at all.

So since then, here's my graph (10s and 20s on Stars):

Thanks again Paul for the great AFFORDABLE coaching lessons. Oh and he is a hilarious guy who will make you feel comfortable.

re: Spin and Go coaching with Cog Dissonance

I play started playing HU $10 for quite sometime and I am quite a consistent winner. I want to move up the stake. But I feel I do not have enough experience to do so. My ps user name is "dragonfang1". You guys said Paul is good. How do I get in touch with him? Can you guys check my graph and give some advice?

Ive had 2 of the 4 sessions with Paul so far and his coaching is the nuts. I can already see a difference in my play and results even thought its not nearly a good enough sample size.

I am getting coached next week and I will definitely come back here and add another post after 500 games played or something. Playing $50 on ipoker and hope he can help me crushing.

Or show me the way that I help myself!

re: Spin and Go coaching with Cog Dissonance

Paul is a very good coach. I did 4 lesson fundamentals course, really enjoyed. Paul was a teacher afaik, so he puts information in easily understandable way. His teaching style is very interesting, more limpier, small ball poker. Here is my FTP graph :

I was a breakeven full ring player at start, and wanted transition directly to husngs and invested 75 pct. of my bankroll into course, which left me to play husngs at 5usd level. At first of "got coached" timeframe, i had a nice swing up, was easily beating everyone. And after our last session, without reinforcing information from lessons by playing, i traveled for a few days. Needless to say, when i came back i almost regressed back to my starting game plus i had sick downsing. So Paul offered me another lesson for free to plug my leaks, for which im really grateful. after that i started to move up again slowly. Then took a shot at $10's, it worked good and then started playing 4man winner take all tourneys with good success. Oh and that sick swing was caused by a shot at $20's and watching croixdawg 5 tabling high stakes video, with his very agressive style, so i implemented some concepts at micros . Well, im back at playing good and worked back my money spent on coaching with much more knowledge, which is invaluable of course. Take the coaching course fast, its dirt cheap and super helpful.

re: Spin and Go coaching with Cog Dissonance

Please do not use him as a coach! And please do not play at iPoker afterwards... especially NOT at my limits.

I received two hours of coaching so far and we started to talk about typical calling stations and tight/passive players and about a general idea how these players think and how we can adapt to totally exploid/crush these players.

I am sure that his coaching will help any player playing $10 or $20 games and for this players the cost for this professional coaching should be a snap-call because it will improve your game a lot. Advanced players playing $50+ can probably use this as well because they will for sure find some good ideas in his playing style that makes sence to add to their game as well.

I am looking forward to the next 2 hours of coaching and will play a few hundred games afterwards and post the results here.

Like all others I could vouch for him so far - good coach!

1. He likes giving coaching because he is a teacher-guy. Read his 1st post.
2. He makes $75/hr while coaching, which is quite a good side income.

Better question would be, why do you coach for such a lovely low rate?
But we will not ask that, because we want him to keep that up.

To the OP, for someone like myself who has never played HU, would it be best first to watch the starter video pack offered on your site HUSNG.com before taking up any formal one on one coaching ?

He was saying it tongue in cheek, not well worded but he is saying "that this guy can coach but do not play at IPoker at my limits cause i want all the fish to myself". Hope that makes more sense to you sir.

Obviously I'm not the OP, but I'd like to offer a suggestion. The answer to your question depends on how fast you want to progress and how much you want to spend. Coaches are expensive but can get you results the quickest. If you however want to be cost efficient then start by reading Moshman's HU book and find a site with HU vids (almost every training site has them, husng.com probably has by far the most, though I am not a member there)

re: Spin and Go coaching with Cog Dissonance

I did some coaching with Paul (his beginner course) and I was quite content with his lessons. I found him well-spoken and paying a lot of attention to the student actually getting the ideas; he surprised me by making me answer a few questions as a sort of a quiz at the end of the first lesson. His lessons come with the extra benefit of having supplementary videos (on husng.com) so the concepts can be reviewed using the videos too.

Unlike many other of Paul's students, I didn't adopt the limping style, having found that the more aggressive and so to say "standard" style fits me better. In spite of this, I am not unhappy in the least that I took the coaching, since it's the postflop play that matters in this game and Paul has given me a lot of solid advice on this. Also, once in a while I run into these hyper-aggro guys everyone has encountered, and there limping way more hands is the optimal adjustment, I'm pretty sure, so Paul's tips help a lot against those. The only thing that worries me about Paul's coaching is that he has such a ton of students - the games might get worse!
