I wrote a blog about it earlier when it broke. A source close to them told me that it was unlikely existing rakeback accounts will lose their rakeback.

While that article doesn't make it sound good, it looks terrible. For example, with two sites that control 80%+ of the US market gone, it doesn't make sense to continue to offer as good of a deal to new users after a certain period of time, you have less competition and players have less options, that doesn't usually equal better deals long term (though in this short term it sure seems like it is offering better deals).

That said, if they don't honor existing rakeback deals, then I think that would be a pretty bad start for them after receiving so many new players. A large part of the appeal is that the 35% deal and other rewards are top notch in the poker world (that and very soft games were the pre black friday appeal).

Looking once more at that article, they then draw the conclusion that players will now flock to Bodog, a room that got rid of their rakeback and decried it as terrible, etc. before. I would almost go as far to guess that the site has some sort of a Bodog signup deal, given their negative rakeback rhetoric. I guess nobody on that site played at FTP for the last 5 years? Or Carbon the last few, or Cake... you'd really do your players a disservice by having helped them get deals there over the years!

In any case, we'll keep an eye on this situation and relay any news as we receive it. Hopefully what I was told is true and prior rakeback players are likely to be grandfathered in.

This was released today by Merge Gaming stating that there will be no new rakeback sign ups after June 1, 2011. Players that signed up prior to this cut off will continue to receive their rakeback payment.

There are a few good ways to improve at <25bb play on the site. First and foremost, for standard members, Cog's super turbo videos are a great tool to use to help you learn to make profitable decisions in 25bb or less areas.

In addition, you have some end game focused videos from players like Fydor, myself and a few Mersenneary standard membership end game videos. We do have a few older PrimordialAA ones as well that should still have value in them.

Aside from that, there are many many videos where 25bb or less situations are discussed, though not the focal point of the video. So if you play in a 50bb type structure but want to work on your 25bb game in particular, you can start with the end game specific videos but then also get into some of the turbo videos that will have end game discussion within them.

For premium members, you have access to all of the above. But you also have access to dozens of end game videos by Mersenneary. You have access to dozens of videos by players like Hokiegreg, who also has a very strong end game. Skates videos would be another recommendation from a very successful short eff. stack player.

Strong play in the 25bb or lower area is essential to long term success of heads up sng players, so this is definitely one area that we've focused on for quite some time and we should have a very wide selection of videos, examples, etc. for you to learn from, for both standard and premium members.

How many Superturbo vids do u have on the site ? I remember from somewhere that there were 5 of them. Ive only seen Cogs vids so far, but I wish there were more vids of ST there. Any chance you would make some ? Because currently theres no point to buy the membership I already have almost all the standard membership vids on my pc..
And I guess im not the only one who would like to see some more ST videos.

Yes, Cog's last 3 videos were super turbos, and his next 3 planned right now are all super turbos (including some super turbo leakfinders).

Mersenneary also does super turbos, though those are mostly found in the premium membership.

Other instructors will be making some ST videos in the near future. I myself will make a few on the Merge network and if they are anywhere near as popular as Cog's I'll make it a part of my regular video schedule.

If you only have 5 super turbo videos though, Cog has over 10 on the site at the moment (and don't forget the 1-2 that Mersenneary has available to standard members, his other 20-25+ end game/ST oriented videos are in the premium section).

No, the free $5 does not count towards the free membership.

Players that want the free standard membership just need to rake $1 not counting the free $5 they use, then they will receive a 1 month standard membership with access to well over 200 videos, probably 250-300 by now, haven't counted in awhile.

hi guys,
being forced to move up and use a more aggressive BRM b/c of recent buy in changes on stars i figured it would be a good time to plug some leaks of mine first and get a husng subscription to get access to the videos listed. seeing the masses of videos by various coaches / gametypes etc. i have a noob question - what videos would u reccomend to some1 playing the new 30's reg speeds on stars ? also any "must-see" videos in ur oppion(s) i should take a look at with fundamental stuff?
