HU Strategy against shover

I just started playing HU $3 & $5 S&G and came across a player who uses a shoving strategy from first hand. I generally min raise 95% button and c-bet a checked flop, etc. I was 8-0 playing this way, most opponents didn't seem to understand this strategy or basic HU play.

He shoved my first min raise. Next button he flatted my min raise, check shoved my c-bet on the flop. Pretty much every hand he played, he would shove pre-flop or post flop, never getting to the turn/river.

This was in a hyper-turbo, $500 starting stack so not much time to wait for a premium flop/hand. What is a reasonable strategy? Open up calling range on his shove or is he just shoving when he hits anything. Ended up calling with Q 3s on a A 4 Q board he shoved after calling my min raise, assumed he would 3 bet with any A, but he did have A 3s.

Been thinking how to play him next time I come across him, but would appreciate comments/suggestions. Sorry if it has been covered before, couldn't find any threads.
Thanks

Fold trash pre, limp medium hands and raise top of range is what I like to do against overaggressive players.

You can't win every game though. Sometimes you just don't get dealt anything good against maniacs.

Tighten opening/cbetting range and be prepared to call off wider

Re: HU Strategy against shover

i played a dude earlier today who would only shove pre in the BB. he never flat. he was only playing like 33% of hands though, so i kept on minraising every hand. in general your going to want to do as ucnat and short change said, but keep an eye on their vpip BB %. basically if its less than 50% you should still be opening a wide range.

also, remember that sometimes ppl get hit by the deck when you dont have any info on their play. the first few hands/games are indications of how villain plays, but its not set in stone. its tough sometimes to remove an image of how you think villain plays, but you gotta keep your mind lucid as to gameflow/villains playstyle. hope that makes sense = )

Re: HU Strategy against shover

It seems like a few players using this shoving strategy on this site. Against them, I am opening less, folding button as it is highly likely they will call, check shove any c-bet I make. With the 500 starting stack, you don't have much room to test the waters. Calling a wider range when I do play since playing more quality hands (vs quantity) and won 4 lost 1 against them today. Up to 17/4 win/loss. Goal is to work my $7's to $300 by end of August. Unfortunately can only play 4 - 5 games per night as we have a young infant who is keeping me busy
Thanks for the advice, always good to try different suggestions.

Working hard at getting to 6 or 7 hu games a night
May have to try multi tabling. Usually only play Sunday in MTTs but trying something different for when I can sit and play for an hour before bed.
