You have a long way to go and a lot to learn. But remember, every thing you learn compounds on itself in this game. You don't learn to win overnight, you pick up little things here and there, and eventually, you have built a game that wins and continues to grow.
I wish I had read this 'bout tree fiddy years ago when I started attempting to grind The thread was ahead of its time when it was made.

Thanks! I haven't been around for a while, moved on from poker and onto coaching (non-poker). I never did get to the upper levels of poker, but I did make a good living at it for 4 years. I still love poker, but I always knew poker would be a springboard to what I am doing now.

It's crazy looking back at it now.

Fantastic post, love the honestly Hince. I think how you approach the game as a player can mirror your own life in many aspects. For example that classic young ego driven guy who likes to be a big shot so is often aggressive in pots with lots of betting and raising. If you're to find your own leaks as a player then not only you improve your win rate in the game but you find you've sharpened yourself as a person and feel greater all the more for it. The most beautiful thing about poker to me is that how much you win and how good you want to be is completely down to you. Want to be a high stakes millionaire? Then put the work in and go for it.

I've also thought about coaching as a future career. What experiences from poker do you draw on to your coaching Hince?

Sorry for my late reply. All of the experiences relate to coaching others. Poker is a model for life in a lot of ways. As poker players we deal with maximizing our edge in the game. Life is very much like that, there are no guarantees, and everyone gambles, some take the safer lower variance route, but even that is a gamble.

I was coaching a client the other day, and he felt like he was a bad sales manager because he was missing on one of his drivers. He had a very "all or nothing" attitude that is common for poker players and people in general. I had him look at the stats, and he's actually top in his company for new business, but is lacking when it comes to repeat business. Having him realize that he didn't completely suck, but had a pretty major leak that he could identify will help him be a top performer all round.
