Looking up is not a bad thing in general. Unless you are experienced enough, you shouldn´t base too many decisions on what you find out looking up someone. Just because somebody has a negative winrate it does not mean that he is not capable of valuebetting or semi-bluffing. If somebody lost $500 playing $20s, but played 4k games already, he might not be a fish but a rakeback grinder. Obv, don´t expect him to pwn you with his soul-reads but be careful.
On Playerscope you can see what mix of games somebody played today or yesterday or when was the last time he played a tournament at all. This gives you an idea about his general poker-approach (All-Gamble, HEADUP ONLY, MTTs, 6max) etc.
