I really like the interview with Paddygo and his talk about happyness ev. I think its great that someone from high stakes brought it up. Its true that too many regs are just focusing on poker volume and forgetting that you can do something else in life than that.

Agree. Very good interview. Also enjoyed the hand pack with thought processes.

I am not sure if I agree. Possibly his right-now EV is higher than his future EV, like many people. However, poker is a chance for a lot of people to earn a lot of money, so they won't have to work a normal job in the future/work less in the future. So all and all I think grinding full time for a few years in order to be semi-set for life, for those who have the ability to, is the best thing.

It's a complex issue.

You could have guys that really lose a lot of social skills and development by not doing anything other than working (whether it's poker or finance or anything else that can be quite isolating), and that could set them back far more than any money they gained over a few years.

There are also guys that have said this in online poker since 2005, "poker will only last a bit, so I better do nothing except play." Burnout can happen easily, other areas of your life can suffer.

That's not to say that your opinion is wrong, I would imagine that neither side is right or wrong, it's really not a question that can be answered in a certain manner when we're talking about a large group of people (it depends on the individual situations, so many variables that can go either way).

personally when I work more on my happiness EV, which means sacrificing certain ammount of poker $EV, my actual EV stays the same or even improves since being happy makes me play better and take the most of my sessions overall... so i think its pretty important to never get burnout (which happened to me countless times before). At least for me its a must to never reach that point nowadays.

Some guys will just make good decisions happy or not so if they're not too worried about their happiness i understand why they grind their ass off for a better future. That said I wouldnt ever sacrifice money over happiness. Or associate: more money = happiness.

To each its own.

I like that she still works a couple days a week to be doing something else than poker that is work related. It probably makes her appreciate her situation even more.
