Betting to fold out villain's equity share with worse hands is betting for protection. You're not exactly bluffing, since villain fold worse hands, but you're making sure he doesn't get to realise his equity in the pot. The main reason we're betting is not value, it is to "bluff out" worse hands with a lot of equity against us, but if villain doesn't fold those, it's not too bad cause he has less than 50% against us with those hands. It's not a valuebet, since his calling range probably has more than 50% against us.
