Villain is a new guy for me so I played totally readlessly. I'm wondering if a 3-bet shove is better than non-all-in 3-bet preflop. Now I just tried to get his money in with such a tiny 3-bet. As played should I just continue on the flop or what?

Hero (BB): 16 BB
SB: 50 BB

Pre Flop: (1.5 BB) Hero has AK

SB raises to 2 BB, Hero raises to 3,5 BB, SB calls 1,5 BB

Flop: (7 BB) 7 4 8
Hero checks, SB bets 3.5 BB, Hero folds

The easiest shove pre ever. As played x/shove flop.

Yes, AKs is basically in my 3-bet shove range at this depth, but in this particular spot my idea was just to get the opponent's money in the middle with a small 3-bet.
Maybe a shove is just the easiest way to play a hand like that.

Are we expecting folds when we shove the flop?
I calculated that even against a single pair (7x,8x,4x) on the flop we have only 26% equity so at least we can't flat (we would need 33% equity).

I truly appreciate your opinions because this is such a spot where I often don't know the best line.

AK has best expectation by 3-bet shoving it pre. You miss value by 3-betting small. A5 can call your shove pre but it is folding on many flops if not improved.

As played I'm not sure which is optimal play on this flop. I think you have 3 options: bet/fold, c/shove and c/call. Maybe bet/fold is best.

C/fold is way too weak play for sure especially with backdoor diamonds.

I don't mind check/folding on this flop

WHy? isn't it too weak with such a strong hand in 3bp?

It was strong hand preflop, now its not so strong, imo c/f, c/c vs small sizing

The reason you should shove this pre is because the random villain will have a wider range for calling shoves than 4-betting all-in.

The reason I don't like a small 3b is because your hand will be somewhat face up post-flop. It's hard to get more than one street of value if A or K hits and you will be in trouble a lot on low card boards.

Against villains who will call any non-all-in 3bet, and there are plenty out there, you can 3-bet to like 6-7 BB and get it in on any flop texture.
