First hand. Is there enough air in a 3x open - 1/2 pot cbet range, and are A highs and broadway overs folding enough, to make a check-raise profitable?

PokerStars - 10/20 NL (2 max) - Holdem - 2 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 25 BB
Hero (BB): 25 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 9 8

SB raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 2 BB

Flop: (6 BB, 2 players) 2 6 4
Hero checks, SB bets 3 BB

I think check-raising this flop would be really bad.

1. 3x pre-flop range is generally really strong and consists of pocket pairs, high Ax and high broadways, and obviously some random junk too.

2. Him having a 3x range probably means he's a rec. Don't expect a rec to fold two high overcards to a raise here, which he probably shouldn't either.

3. I think if you raise here it would put you in a really sticky turn spot cause you almost have to barrell most turns and you would have no clue if you even have any equity.

I think you can make a lot of moves against 3x open because he's range is pretty well determined on like middling well connected boards, but imo this flop is not connected enough to have the required fold equity.

Makes sense. Do you guys think this is a x/r if villain 3x opens as a standard?
