Hello, i would like to introduce myself. Im joopie22, i have played on and off for about 8 years and i was the typical recreational player. Improper br management, big nonsensical bluffs, looking to get a big score in a tourny. I saw poker mainly as entertainment when i got bored of my other card luck/skill games. Because of always playing these kinds of games i think i have become very good at leveling and reading my opponents skill. I got more into poker because of discovering HU. I like the forcing to play almost all hands and the constant action opposed to waiting for hands in ring games. I watched a lot of videos and read some books but now im at the point that i dont know what to do next. I have to note im a student and not able to spend any money on poker training purposes ATM. I also downloaded the trial of Holdem Rescourses Calculator and figured out my preflop ranges. Any tips on how to improve further? Oppinions about the putting in volume/ studying ratio?
Anyways this is a hand i thought might be interesting to discuss. First hand of the tourny, no stats on opponent

Hero (SB): 1,500 (75 bb)
BB: 1,500 (75 bb)
Preflop: Hero is SB with A
4
Hero raises to 50, BB calls 30
Flop: (100) J
5

(2 players)
BB bets 40, Hero calls 40
Turn: (180) 4
(2 players)
BB bets 40, Hero calls 40
River: (260) 7
(2 players)
BB bets 260
At this point i am very confused about his line of action. Top pair or better wont only bet 40 into 180 on the turn. A pair of 5's wont likely bet full pot on the river. So IMO hes only representing a rivered straight or set. But there are so many missed draws i felt like i had to call with 4th pair. Thoughts?
If i get a serious response ill post the RESULT
EDIT: tournament is reg speed
