Played my first large field live mtt yesterday, 25k starting stack, 60 minute clock, £220 buy in and £40K guaranteed.

Feel my table was a pretty tough one with 3 really good players, and couple of maniacs

First session before the break went ok, then after the break ran into a bit of trouble, best hand I got dealt in 4 hours was a pair of 8s and I was down to around 15k in chips, hung around till the second break at around 15k with between 20 and 30 bbs after shoving a river with air on a limped pot in the bb and shoving my 8s to a raise from a tight player

When the antes kicked in and levels went up in I dwindled to around 13 BBs
BBs were 800 and I had just over 11000 in chips

Play was 7 handed

I Open shoved A5 suited in early position with 5 left to act and ran into pocket 10s,

Had previously folded A2 offsuit in the BB to a raise from medium stacked good tight player in the cut off,

folded K10 suited to a raise from another medium stacked good player who raised early early with 3 left to act, one a bit of a maniac with a huge stack.

Did I pick the wrong spot?

I would have done the same thing.

Its not a great spot but you can't wait too much longer and expect to have leverage. You probably are only getting called by AT+ and though 55+ puts you in a bad way, you are mostly going to be called by huge stacks or the blinds with 55-77.

Its much worse to shove against pre-flop raisers so I would have folded Ax and KTo to pre-flop raises as well.

Check out Jennifear for push/shove. This is unexploitable +EV shove.

Shove is fine. You can shove A5s profitably up to 16-17BB, especially live in low-to-mid stakes when players call off far less than they should against open shoves.

Also want to look for opportunities to resteal before we get to this point, even with somewhat marginal hands over mid-to-late position raises where we're likely to get a lot of folds.
