Im playing a 20$ tournament on a canadian poker site. 16 are left 12 paid 1k/2k blinds. I am 5th in chips with 35k. Iam in the big blind with ATo he has 60k. The dealer open raise for 8k! I dont have any info on him. The stack size and the buble position is tricky. What do you do?
- if i just call its 25% of my stack. If i hit an ace or a ten or a flush draw or open ended i will go with it. If i dont hit i fold and im average stack.
-i think folding AT is bad from dealer position even if he opens for the first time with 4BB.
-Raising all in: we have some fold equity but i think someone raising 4BB tends to call a 18BB allin
-i sometimes tend to raise half my stack if im willing to go allin with my hand. I think this move shows that you are commited with your hand. And its more credible than allins and it might get a fold from small pairs. Because when you have a big pair most people dont raise all in. I tried this move several time with 15 to 20bb and i rarely get a fold. 22 or kq they rarely fold.
This hand I raised to 20k leaving 15k behind. Dealer shoves!
Assuming that his range for raising 4bb and that he is not folding is any pair a9+ kj+ QJs. AT has 43% equity vs this range. To simplify the problem lets assume that he is shoving allin ( because i think the person raising 4bb is not folding 18bb) so i have to call 33k since im in the BB. The pot is 5k+his 35k and my 33k which give me 45% of pot odds which is not good vs 43% equity. How is allin the best option if he is never folding and with these numbers?
I think you have two options, shove or fold. Given ICM and your read that you don't have that much fold equity, the better option is to fold.
The priority in this situation is to cash and not to take marginal spots to win chips.
If your are 5th with only 18bbs, probably, i assume there are a good % of the field really short. So its really bad scenario if you don't cash.
I think this hand is a fold.
