Hi. I played a lot of scoop satties. General strategy nearing ticket bubble was to take as long as possible to play hands, including use of time bank in order to wait out, hoping small stacks on other tables would bust. It can be frustrating, but I also agree with the reasons behind it. This got me thinking about optimal use/abuse of time bank in other types of tournaments and stages etc.

For example, nearing bubble of a normal mtt, I will slow game pace down if I am quite low in chips (but not desperate) until bubble bursts. If I have a big stack, I get impatient with other players doing this - I want to play as many hands during bubble phase as possible to use my big stack advantage.

Additionally, when deep in the money (especially on final table), if I judge myself to be weaker than most other players, I will slow tourney down in order to play fewer hands per level in order to increase variance. On the other hand, if I judge myself one of the stronger players, or I have a large chip stack, I want to play as many hands per level as possible.

What are other players opinions/experience of this?

Many people hate others who timebank but I don't mind it. You have the opportunity within the boundaries to use it as a strategy so you are allowed to use it that way. That doesn't mean it is always smart. You using your timebank nearing a bubble also means you tighten your range. If you are on a table with lots of regs, they will punish you for it.

I know someone who implements a timebank strategy in all his hands. He just use the full extend of his timebank for more fold equity. People are annoyed and frustrated to play against him so they rather fold than wait another 1, 2 or 3 full timebanks on the flop/turn/river. Do I support this play? Hell no. Poker, in the first place, is about having fun.

except bubbles and payjumps, slowing the game won't give you an edge if you are not spending the time for thinking the best action.

On the bubble, the tables play hand for hand, so time banking is just a waste of time. No other table starts a new hand until all the tables finish their hand. And even if you time bank for 5 minutes and bust 5 minutes later than another player on the same hand in hand for hand action, you may still finish "lower" if you had the smaller stack at the beginning of the hand.

Disagree with this. Slowing tournament down is effectively the same as speeding up the blind increases. Faster structure=higher variance, which is better for weaker players.

Often, players will use this strategy several places from hand for hand

short stacks should do this as often as they can nearing the bubbles. Like yeah we should always play to win, but when it's apparent you are about to be blinded out stalling is acceptable. A lot of people take exception to this, but honestly it's online poker so when aren't people bitching.
