Hi Guys,
I just played my first ever live tournament, which was a Satellite for a 3 k Tournament. I reached 4 handed play and the original payout structure was 1-2 get the ticket, 3 gets 2400$. 4 handed we decided to chop the money, so that 3rd got 1400 $ and 4th got 1 k.
I never played such a super shallow tournament, blind levels were 20 minutes and live that is not a lot as you may imagine.
The other 3 player played fairly solid, I played the tightest tournament of my life, which mainly was due to the fact that I was card dead the entire night (in 5,5 hours, my best hand was once TT, once 99 and 2 times each AK/AQ, really sick…, no idea how I made the money…).
In my final hand blinds were up to 4k/8k. The blinds raised just when I came into the Big Blind. This sucked as the small blind stole my BB, which left me with just over 3 BB behind (average stack was 5 BB).UTG has and AVG+ stack, the button has slightly more than me.
I gave the BB to my left a couple of walks previously as he was the Big stack (around 8 BB) and I was playing very snug (I shoved once out of the SB and showed AK).
Action was folded to me in the SB and I get dealt J3 off. I know a super raggy hand, but given the circumstances there are only two options, shove or fold. If I fold, in 3 more hands I’m in the BB with just 2 BB behind and super exploitable ( after that I’m nearly done).
And given my image, a shove may even get through. I expected the BB only to call with (super) premium; 99+. AQ+, because he also risks a big chunk of his stack, and we are not on the bubble yet (only a small 400 $ bubble).
Given this situation, do you shove or fold, if so why?
