Short stacked call question. Short stacked call question.

I am in big blind. blinds are 1,500 3,000 with a 500 Ante. 17 left 10 paid (Not really all that concerned with getting paid).

I start with 22 K before posting. First person goes all in (she is also short stacked with 25 K) and all fold to me. I have ace ten suited. Is that an auto call here?

If I fold I am down 3,500 to 18,500 with 2 K going out next hand. I know nothing about this person as I moved to the this table one hand before. I do know she is not a regular at the weekly casino tournaments I am playing in here. I wonder if that should play into the decision in any way?

I called; she had kings and I am out. Should also mention it is a bounty tournament so my short stack is even more likely to be called when I go all in.

As a rule I hate calling other people's all in but I don't think I have the chips to effectively go all in myself.

Easy peasy call. She has 8BB. Even nits know they have to make a move soon at that stack size.

That is what I thought but some of the people at the table were critical.

I`d call off with a lot worse there, with less than ten bigs in the BB.

You could play like Ivey, they`d still find fault. Unless you WERE Ivey.
Spoiler:
Then they`d treat you like a god, even as you stole 10`s of million$$$ from the very idiots who worship you.

Understand how you feel about calling off against all-ins, but it is a big part of the game and you can't let your "hate" for doing so get in the way of making good decisions!

Try to get in the habit of putting you opponent on a shoving range using all of the factors at your disposal. Factor in their stack, position, what you know about the player, etc. Study the short stack shove charts to get an idea of what optimal shove ranges are so you know how to counter them.

Obviously, an old man nit in early position is going to shove a much tighter range than a good young player opening on the button. Your job is to just best guess a range, then calculate how your hand does against it.

Here, you have a crystal clear call. Just like you mention how another trip through the blinds is going to crush your stack, the same is true for her! This is her last chance to shove with this many chips, and even the most conservative guess for her has to include all Aces, all pairs, most Kings and some other broadway cards.

Unfortunately for you, she got lucky and smashed the top of her range. And look, you still had ~30% equity with all those chips in the pot. You did nothing wrong, and should use this as an opportunity to learn to call even wider when the situation presents itself.
