Live Tourney so bear with my history.

540 players/ approx halfway through the field, avg stack size just under 40,000.

short stack has 11,700
hero 60,000
Villian 90,000

fold
short stack shoves 11,700
fold
fold
fold
hero calls 11,700 with 1010
fold
villian raises to 25,000
SB folds 500
BB folds 1000

Hero?

Call, shove, or fold?

I can see an argument for all options, calling being the worst imo.... too many flops scare me off if I don't improve.

No great read on villian as he had been at table for an hour or 2 at this point.

I think this is why we didn't shove the first time around.

I wouldn't call. Its 30% of our remaining stack and to me that is pot committing. We would be OOP as well. So we are essentially set mining for the wrong price.

I would probably fold. I think villain has QQ+ a lot more frequently than AK/AQ. And I doubt 99 is in this range. With AK/AQ villain either calls or shoves and similarly with 77-99. My immediate thought is villain is trying to suck you in.

We are getting immense odds, but villain's raise looks really strong.
We are basically set-mining and even assuming we get stacks in every time we hit a set, we are still slightly short of having the needed implied odds.
Without hitting the set we need to hope that villain plays it as honest as it gets with the non JJ+ hands that he would maybe have in his range.
Too many assumptions to me, so I'd fold. (and swallow the puke, I guess ;-) )

Yeah i'm folding. Better spots to be had with our stack size.

im pretty sure the only hands he does this that we beat is AK which is 16 combos, everything else in his range beats us, ie: JJ+ with 24 combos.

Being AK is a flip I think TT its a sigh fold and JJ is a decision imo

Thanks for replies. results in spoiler for anyone who cares

Spoiler:
I tried to talk myself into pot in my head, it was probably the 15th pocket pair I had that day and had yet to flop a set, so I figured I was due. (yes I know the odds are not changing for this hand despite the 0fer 14 start) Just trying to find a reason to play a big jammer pot.

I did however end up swallowing the puke and folding.

shortie had 55, villian AK and board was XXXXX, so short stack more than tripled up and I swallowed really hard to keep the puke down again.

This happened to be about 15 mins before dinner break, and I shoulda just went to dinner at that point. I steamed for the first time in a long while and dropped below average stack, so at least I learned a bit of a lesson.

On the positive side, I lasted twice as long as a former WSOP ME final tabler, so I can hang my hat on that.

What were the blinds here? If small stack shove is < 5bb I think that you have to go with your hand. If it's > 10 bb I think that you have to fold. Somewhere in between it's a really though spot.
