New table after break. Hero in the BB with 21 BB.
Average stack in a turbo, bounty, still far from the money.
Villain unknown. Open shoves from 3D seat (utg+2) for 12 BB.

How big does my pair need to be to call?

JJ+

I'd expect to see 88-QQ or AJs/AQs. We play well against that range. I'm not interested in trying to cut it much finer. But with an unknown Villain, the outer edges of his range could including anything from AA to pocket fours or 87s.

I would call lighter than RiverDood... 88+. He's shoving A10 or better so any mid range pairs have a very good chance of being ahead. I would also discount AA/KK ... peopel tend to raise like 3x even wtih 10 bb to get action.

Call with AQ+ or 88+ and feel good about it.

Depends a bit on the size of the antes as well, but as it's a bounty as well 44+/A8s+ seems rather standard.

I would call 88+/AJ+/ATs.

I would consider calling slightly wider depending on the size of the bounty compared to the buy-in. If it is a standard 1 to 4 ratio (i.e., $25 bounty for a $100 entry) this is my range. But if its a $100 bounty for a $230 entry I would probably go with 77+...

Quite a range...44 or JJ. My pair was between those...It was a small ante, just 1/6 of SB.
But a very fast structure, only 20 minute levels in a b/m.

Bounty 1/4 of buy in

There must be a GTO response to that.
Looking at the Jennifear push chart and assuming a 10% ante and 9-handed table, villain should be pushing 17.6% of hands.
I don't have any calculator on this PC, but against that range and the bounty (but the value of the bounty depends how deep we are in the tournament though), I would be very comfortable calling at least with AJ+, 88+. I think our theoretical calling range is probably wider in this spot, but I also think a random villain is pushing quite tighter than GTO in this spot and we are a bit crippled if we lose.
Which would all circle me back to AJ+, 88+. If my stack was bigger, I would call a bit lighter, something like ATs and 77. And if we are really in pretty early stages of the tournament (and the bounty means more), I would take a chance with smaller pairs like 66, maybe 55. It's a live turbo (which often feel like an online hyper-turbo), we need to take chances.

I was thinking a normal tournament... with a bounty that high I'd probably be snapping with any pair given it's only half my stack and basically a turbo. Have to win flips and pairs are the nuts!

Thanks for the responses. The tournament still had about 35-40 left, and paid only 7, so we were quite far from the $. That and the fast structure led me to call with 66. It seems the consensus is a bit tighter, probably 88+, which, in retrospect makes more sense to me. We are very unlikely to see underpairs, and are mostly hoping for a small edge flip.

Assuming it's an 8-handed-table w 10% Ante (and all other stacks covering us):

UTG+2 20.7%, 22+ A2s+ A9o+ K8s+ KJo+ Q9s+ QJo J9s+ T8s+ 98s

BB 14.5%, 33+ A7s+ A8o+ KJs+ KQo

Thanks!:-)
Villiain most likely shoves a tighter range live so we would need to adjust a little as well.
The call with 66 seems fine though given the bounty and the structure.
