Hey guys. This hand I was involved in in a live tournament has me wierdly intrigued and I want to know you guys opinion on my line and general decision.

5 Handed blinds 2500/5000
Hero: UTG +2 ~65000
Villian SB ~64000

Hero dealt QQ, raises to 18000
Villian Calls, Blinds fold.

Flop: A 10 5 rainbow
Villian goes All In
Hero?

In a situation like this with a fairly loose player I really had to think long and hard on this, what do you guys do here?

I think you made a mistake by opening for anything but your whole stack. 5 handed, with only 13BB, you need to be open shoving like 99+, ATo+, A9s+ ish. Seeing a flop can only put you in a dicey spot unless you flop huge.

Your raise size is WAY too big as well because now you only have 9.5BB and you're left with zero good options. Open jam>>>>>raise 2x-2.2x>>any other option (like open to 3.6x/fold flop)

AP, I guess fold? Definitely barf, but probably fold.

^^^^ Exactly.

Mistake #1 was not shoving. Mistake #2 was opening too big. I guess folding is OK now, most people play super straight-forward in a low-stakes tournament at a final table.

AUTO Call unless he is really thinking a couple levels higher why would he jam a super dry board with Ax...oop. If he hit his Ace he should check to you to let you continue with your bluffs and your big pairs like KK-JJ and re-evaluate in future streets

I'm gonna open jam some hands pre, but I could see myself coming in for a small raise with QQ+ and some J9s/98s/87s etc.

Flop doesn't really work out for us, but I'd probably call vs an open jam and hopefully run in to Tx often enough.

That's what I'd do, but how many Ax hands do you have here, OP?

I think the raise preflop is fine if you do it 2/2.2x BBs - Its good because you do that raise with your 88+ hands and your maybe BTN Steals. On the flop, you should trust your read of the player but if we got absolutely no knowledge of the player and i've never seen him jaming that way, i prob do a crying call.

You can make an argument for min raising either against a bad table with spewy blinds who don't understand how nutted your pf range is or against a really tight table who might call a raise AQ/AJ out of the blinds and committ on J/Q hi flops.

As played though obv yeah fold

If he has it he has it and played it extremely poorly/got lucky. Obviously not extremely thrilled but I expect to see KJ/JTish hands as well as sometimes a superderp AJ. Jam or raise small pre would be good, but since you got flatcalled somehow your play might be very good.

At those stack sizes I would think if he's loose like said he would be shoving pre? I'm calling.

Even at 13BB we can have some hands that we open 2.2x vs. shove. I might only have AA/KK in that range, balancing with some weak suited connectors that are marginal +EV open shoves, but QQ might be ok.

As played we have to call. Our opponent is going to miss this flop way more than he's going to hit it for starters, and the second question I'd ask is how often a player in the SB with Ax is just flatting vs. coming over the top.

Agree we need to know the other stacks and payouts or even if it is in the money yet?

I'm guilty of this a % of the time and I'm sure I cannot be the only one lol. I might do this with a suited small ace and sometimes something like A9-AQ and I've even occasionally done it with AK. Need to see the flop first. I know it's bad because the hand will have more outs if can see the full board.
