ok before I begin, I have ben away from the 2p2 community for quite some time now (5yrs to be exact) lets just say I was on time out by uncle sam. anyhow, here is how the hand went.. 5 left at the final table (deepstack MTT) and pretty much everyone has the same amount of stack sizes.
im in mid pos with 88. blinds are 2k 4k with 500ante I open for 8k in mid position. villain raises all in on button. everyone folds to me.. some background/reads on villain. vill was playing LAG. went all in earlier with J2 off suit and got called by AQ. got extremelty lucky hit a deuce on turn to win hand. so I knew he was capable of trying to make a play and steal blinds by donking.. I decided to call because I was almost certain I was ahead being that I put him on a wide range.. also i knew if i double up here i knew i was gonna win the tourney. my table image was solid TAG and i was switching gears through out the final table and stealing blinds bluffing here and there.. so my question is, is this a good call or should i have folded?? i will reveal results after feedback. thank you guys for your input.. im a lil rusty as you can see

88 is usually a snapcall. Someone reshoving J2o isn't a complete idiot but you will be well ahead of his Broadways.

Good luck with round 2.

these live posts should be in micro stakes or something, seen better play in the big $2.20.

The fact that you are not including stacks in your description and that you are pondering a fold seem to indicate that you are not aware enough of stack depths and especially short stack play. I am not judging you, I am not a pro and I am just trying to give you input as that's what the forum is for.

You mention that villain went all-in earlier on with J2 and that he was lucky enough to double-up. Given villain's current stack size and his recent double-up, he must have had something between 4 and 8 BB when he did that, so it was probably the right thing to do and shows that he has at least some idea of short-stack play (if he did that from a good position).

Anyways, as others have mentioned, you have 12BB, have a very decent pocket pair, it should be an easy shove in the first place. If you just raise, don't fold with this hand though, unless more than one player covering you shoves behind you. I know that live play is usually tighter than online play, but 88 is just too good to fold with these odds. But you shouldn't put yourself in such an awkward icm position and get it in yourself in the first place.

Without judging again, I would recommend getting some litterature about short-stack play. Harrington was one of the first to explain it really well in his original books, but since then, there are many to choose from. Kill Everyone is an absolute great read in my opinion if you're familiar already with some poker principles.
