Hey guys,

I'm trying to figure out if I played a hand wrong tonight. My gut says it was standard but tell me your thoughts.

I'm playing a 2 day tournament with 6 1 day flights.
30 minute levels. Day 1 goes until level 16. Starting stack is 15k with a $10 add on for $10.... so 20k...

I'm at level 11. Ante of 200, SB 600. BB 1200.
I have 23.5 K. Chip average is about 40k.
UTG and BB are pros in my opinion. I see them win a lot of bigger buyin tournaments. I believe they can outplay me post flop.

UTG makes it 2500. He has a massive stack of about 120 - 140k.
Everyone folds. I look down at pocket tens. I've only showed pocket aces and the nuts all night. I've only flipped my cards over twice.

I believe he has 2 high cards or a small pair.
I ship it all in. The kill phil mentality.

The SB hims and haws, but eventually folds.
BB folds.
Villian says "here goes a bad call" it was an inside joke. It was a really fin sarcastic table.

He flips over AQ spades.
So a coin flip.

flop come KJT clubs. I flop a set he flops broadway.
I bust out of the tournament.

With that said, by best chance to double up was through the villian. I tok my shot and lost.
Has I just flatted, it would have been a cooler. I may have folded.
If i raised, he would just shove anyways, and I would more than likely have called.
I was slightly ahead pre flop.

I've cashed minimal in a few multi flight tournaments.
I've made 1st several times in 1 day tournaments.

I told myself today that I was going to try to accumulate chips, not play for that min cash.

Did I play the hand wrong?

Is my theory wrong?

Hey,

I think you played it fine! But just like you, I am calling out to others here to know what they think.

Do not 3-bet smaller pre though, especially with this hand.

I have pondered the same kind of situations in the past:
- There is an early position raise
- We are sitting in middle position with 20BB
- We are being dealt TT

I think it's not a spot as straightforward as it might seem. But I came to the conclusion that TT is a fine shove against most villains.

Flatting pre, I think there are just too many runouts where we lose value. (don't get stuck on this specific board, it is almost irrelevant in the "grand scheme" of things - but yes you would have stacked off and if not it would have been a mistake ;-) )
When we get it in, if we range villain at 77+, ATs+, AJ+, KJs+, it's good enough to be EV+. But most ranges will be wider with antes in play, so.... Nevertheless, there is also the chances that someone wakes up with a monster behind us. (if we are in LP, it is an easy shove against most villains)

This looks fine, OP. I think the Call behind for 21bb effective is likely to be losing vs you here.
