Hi guys,

I have been struggling and feel like leaking chips with my cbet strategy in MTT-s. I'm not super loose, however never really shying away from opening with middle connectors and the like, however usually tend to lean toward TAG style.

Usually when opening for a raise, I also cbet more often than not. I do not see much trouble regarding my cbets vs weak opposition, however I do not feel that comfortable vs solid to good players. It feels to me that high % of cbets is well picked up by good players, opening myself up for checkraise bluffs on the flop to take me off from my A-high and K-high type hands that could be good.

So, could you share your thoughts and perhaps optimal strategies regarding checking back the flops (which kind?). So, I'm talking about flops that we miss (have some ace-high or backdoor situations), however could also like to check back to induce bluffs on later streets?

All the thoughts are well appreciated.

Broad question, OP.

Don't cbet hands that can't go three streets for value as a general rule.

Where you open from should determine which hands you use to bet. For example, AK, UTG when you miss the flop is low down in your distribution, however when you open BTN, it will be much more towards the middle.

My coach has taught me to separate my hand into 1 of 4 categories to start:
Value hand; drawing hand; marginal hand; and junk/air/low value.

In general, you should c-bet the value hands and drawing hands. Against calling stations, adding in marginal hands might be profitable, depending on how wide their calling range is and against players who will fold too often of course adding in the junk hands is profitable.

yes, very broad question for sure.

i tailor my c-betting on the opponent(s) in the hand. Vary it depending upon the number of players still in, their positions, and who they are. So i really cant answer the general question very well.

what i can say for certain is to VARY it. good players will pickup on any tendencies or patterns you might have and will exploit you.

good luck,

Your opening range
(assumption on) Villain's defending range
Board Texture
Interaction of these ranges ranges on these texture = your default cbet strategy (approximation of GTO solution)
+ game features, table reads, villain's postflop tendencies and reads = adjustment to your default strategy (transition from vacuum GTO to MES (maximal exploitative strat) [or just adjusted optimal strategy])

YOUR ACTUAL CBET STRATEGY

Yes MES might be wrong term but the idea is understandable I think.
