hi guys, hope this is in the right section , I was in my local live tournament £36 buyin freezout I late reged 25k starting stack blinds 150/300 10 handed. Third hand im on the btn with 6♠️7♠️ . Utg limps so does everybody else I limp now the sb raises to 2k ,bb folds ,everybody calls so do I. It's 9 way to flop 18.3k in the pot
flop is 10♠️6♥️2♠️
Sb just bombs 15k and is left with 2k
What's your play ?
My thoughts are qq +
Sb was practically betting the flop before all 3 cards were revealed
Also is my play up to this point good/bad
I put myself on 14 outs x4 is over 50% equity with pot odds of 2.2-1 is this correct ? If so is it a snap call second hand in ?
Thanks in advance and I hope I've included all relevant info

I think your range construction is right here. Sb almost always has an overpair in this spot.

As you mentioned, your equity is around 50% against overpairs so a call is definitely +EV.

There is a chance SB has a hand like AKss which you are also flipping against.

Given your pot odds, and the possibility of random bluff factor in these small tournaments, you should call.

That being said, in tournaments such as these where you consider yourself to have a massive edge on the field, it isn't always wise to just get it in and flip. I understand your thinking here, but the fact that it is second hand shouldn't matter at all.

I called and she had kk and I rivered a 7 for 2 pair
She was really annoyed dropping all sorts of comments like i wasn't getting the right price and stuff but she's a sponsored pro/semi pro by the casino so I was a bit confused if I was working it out wrong or she was
Maybe they should sponsor me hey ? Haha

Sounds like a typical player steaming off.

You had to call 15k to win 33.2k. 33.2/15 = 2.2 so your pot odds are correct.

You need to have 15/ (33.2 + 15) % equity to make this a profitable call. 15/48.2 = 0.311.

You need 31.1% equity to make this call, even if she has the NUT top of her range (TT) you still have around 30% equity.

To further my last comment, this kind of spot you shouldn't be passing up even if you do feel like you have an edge on the table. You've probably got an even bigger edge when you have 60k to play with .

Ye thanks for your reply I pretty much knew I was right but when the full tables in awe at her saying she's a pro she's won 6 figures and she's saying stuff like that to me I must admit I was doubting myself

she was counting on the 'intimidation factor' and it didnt work out for her.. good for you, hope you cashed.

i can't stand when players claim to 'greatness' because they won XX amount of dollars... coulda got lucky in one big dollar tourney for all you know...

i'm impressed if you show me a high 'cash rate' not absolute number

Don't lose heart! Glad the hand worked out. Remember that many big-name pros are Always Playing Poker. Their table chat isn't meant to provide you with guidance to become a better player. It's meant to disrupt your game in ways that make it easier for them to take money from you.

There's a famous thread in the 2+2 archives,, back a few years, called "Vanessa Selbst Wants Me to Fold." Very similar situation. It's worth a read.

I think your play to this point is good. I question whether SB is really a "pro"...

SB should be raising pre-flop to 2,500 or so. Maybe everybody still calls but there is a chance she gets only 1 or 2 calls. Then, she telegraphs her hand strength by preparing to bet massively before seeing the flop. Then she argues that you should have folded (which means she would have folded?) in an automatic call spot. Finally she is playing in what is essentially a $75 tourney.

Your call last in pre-flop is fine, getting a bargain price.

Once you hit the flop that hard you can't fold. You are a slight favorite to win vs overpair (I think). And you are getting 2+:1.

I made a mistake in my post above.

When there are limpers and I have 60 BB's I tend to raise 3x + Lx where L is the number of limpers. So I would have raised to 3,300 from the SB not 2,500 (and certainly not 2,000). In general that should either take it down or get 1 caller maybe 2.
