This hand was from Event 9 at the CPC last weekend. 1st place is $53k cash and a car worth $50k. 53 players left avg stack at 301k blinds 3000/6000 500 ante 9 players per table.

MP (~400k chips) raised to $18k
Hero (CO - ~280k chips) has AK. 1st question is Call, raise or fold? Hero decides to call.
BB (~150k chips) goes all in.

MP tanks and shoves.

Hero call or fold?

Like to hear pro and cons to different decisions.

Thanks.

Raise, I'm making it like 44k here.

If BB shoves and then MP reshoves after that, I think we have a reasonably easy fold pre.

As played you haven't gained a whole lot of information on the strength of your opponents, and while you've successfuly disguised the strength of your hand, with still about 30 bb I think you can wait for a better spot.

My read on initial raiser was that the hand wasn't too strong but he was big stack. I did consider 3b to roughly 40k and I figured he's calling all the time out of position. I will c bet most flops and expect him to call/fold unless he hits top of his range.

The BB all-in is shortstack. I expect to be ahead of his range most of the time in that spot.

So now that I'm getting 1.5x my money is the odds worth the call?

3bet pre and call the short stack. If the MP still reshoves its a tough spot. By only calling you put yourself in a tricky spot. I can see myself either calling or fold now, player dependent.

3bet the first time and wtf snap call now. It's not that we're flipping, it's that the odds the pot offers are so good that we have to take it.

so what's i'm trying to figure out through discussion is at this stage of tourney with it essentially being winner take all, do i want to create a flip situation for a big pot or just try to grind up. the blind structure was such that they rise up somewhat rapidly compared to "standard" structures (skip levels at 40 mins rounds) so there's a need to accumulate chips.

i think if i 3 bet preflop the BB still shoves and then MP has to decide if their hand is strong enough. i think they're likely to fold in that spot with only 18k invested.
