You should aim to continue roughly 60% of your range in this spot. I think I'm calling.

Any history with him so far?
Without I will probably call, but I may consider rising in that spot if he tends to fold...

I think when you bet pre and catch a piece of the flop you really should c-bet. But you chose not to and now he's in control. I don't think I like your hand enough to call.

Betting flop doesn't really accomplish much imo. He's never folding any pair, or oesd
If I bet the flop what is the plan for later streets?

On this runout, keep betting.

Remember, if you c-bet around 1/2 the pot you only need to take it down 1 time in 3 to break even. If you c-bet wisely and don't overdo it you will take down way more than 1 in 3. With the amount of dead money that goes in pre-flop, especially from the blinds, you are losing a lot of equity if you don't c-bet hands that you actually improve after raising preflop, especially when the flop doesn't crush villain's range. I would bet the turn too, and bet enough to give villain a bad price on drawing to the straight. A lot of villains aren't going to chase a straight to the river if you give them a bad price and will fold it there. And if they choose to chase, they are getting bad odds and you have made a good bet. At least some of the 8-x hands or 10-x hands will bail on the turn as well. Since the river doesn't change much, if he check-calls all the way I'd bet again occasionally but usually I'd just cash in the showdown value of the hand and avoid getting check-raised off of it or losing more if villain has winners.

If he wants to chase a straight I am okay with that. Unless you think he's playing 7-4 it doesn't get there. And if he's slow-playing a 7-9 and I'm doomed, I'm not likely to lose a ton unless I bet too much or impulsively call a big bet or a check raise. The thing is, this way I don't cede the control of the hand to my opponent. As played, you let the villain force the action. Now you have to react to him and his unknown holdings, and all you have is a bluff catcher, and a crappy one too, since all the 8-x and 10-x hands he thinks are semi-bluffs are good. Of course, if you bet and he check raises you or he donks the turn or river you have to re-evaluate your hand. But you are always better off making your opponent react to what you are doing than you are sitting back and letting him dictate to you.
