We're early in a deep stack tournament with 16k starting stack. In this hand I have 35k stack. Villain 1 (UTG+2) has 11.5k and my read is scared. Villain 2 (Button) has bought late, and it is his very first hand, with 16k. Blinds are 150-300, no ante.
I am the BB, and am dealt 33. Five limpers go into the pot before me, and I check.
Flop ($1800): 10
10
3
An OK flop, I think.
With 5 limpers, I think the odds are very high another player has a 10. I also think, however, that they are going to check to disguise their hand. I decide to check, for three reasons.
First, it's possible no one has a 10, and if I bet when there are no draws or over cards, the hand ends there.
Second, if someone has a 10, I will get their chips on the turn and river.
Third, a draw may come on the turn, giving me another customer. I check, and as expected, it checks around.
Turn ($1800): 6
A flush draw appears - excellent. I bet 1/2 pot ($900). I expect to get a call from flush draws and, more, I expect a raise from any 10s to price out a flush draw, which I can then reraise. Instead, Villains 1 and 2 call. Everyone else folds.
River ($4500): 5
The flush makes it. I bet $1700. It was small, probably too small, but I wanted to give my opponents plenty of room to raise. Instead, both Villains call. Villain 1 had K10 for trips, and Villain 2 has A
9
for the nut flush. I take down a $9600 pot.
But I should have gotten more, dangit! Did I go wrong, or did the weak/passive nature of the Villains mean I was just not going to get paid off?
1. Should I have bet the flop? I would have lost Villain 2, but would I have gotten enough from Villain 1 to make up for it?
2. I think my turn bet was appropriate. Should it have been more?
3. Should I have bet more on the river? Should I have gone for the check-raise on the river?
