First hand of day 2, hero is one of the bigger stacks on the table with 31.5k, doesn't recognize anyone at the table. Stacks range from 10k - 46k and we are starting at 600/1200 with a 200 ante so not a lot of chips in play. 3449 player returned and they just announced that only 2241 will make the money.

No reads on villain, late 20s, white, had a backpack and seemed comfortable at the table.

Folds around to villain in MP who raises to 2400, folds around to the blinds, the SB hasn't arrived yet, and hero is in the big blind with K7cc and calls.

Flop Ks Js 5c
Hero leads for 3100, Villain thinks for about 15 seconds and announces all in for 23900 total.

I'll wait to give my thoughts but I'd like to hear what others think.

Why lead? Comfortable flop c/c especially given backdoor clubs.

I think you're crushed by his range here. Perhaps he has a draw but it doesn't matter. Flop is now a fold

You don't want 3 bets to go in so if flop checks through you're happy betting turn and riv

Obviously getting barreled sucks. One of those spots where most players flop check call range is 1 pair bluff catcher heavy. Decent hand reader can make life hard

Preflop is debatable. Maybe 3betting or folding is better

yeah +1 to c/c, don't see any legitimate reason to lead here being first hand of the day and nothing to say about villain's tendencies. Dumb spot now and just gonna fold barring some crazy in the moment read. Pre, calling is gonna be better than folding pretty much always and don't think 3b/f should be given too much thought readless on first hand.

Yeah I really don't understand the lead either. I'm actually the villain in this hand trying to get an idea of how one would perceive my play with what's essentially a bluff catcher.

Bit off topic but why did you feel the need to mention Hero has a backpack?

As you're asking for perceptions, here's mine, for what it's worth...
This flop hits BB's range pretty hard here (not gonna say hero/villain here, because it will get confusing). So MP's shove doesn't look like a complete bluff here, but often a strong draw. A big made hand could do the same because of the draw-heavy board, but will often try to raise smaller. A solid hand like TPGK will sometimes shove too.
So to me, if I'm BB, I fold here. But in-game, especially live, perception and momentum can change those reads.

I find BB donk leads are usually middle pair, some sort of draw or a weak top pair, I don't mind the shove if your style is very aggro, but again what hands are you shoving for value? TPTK or possibly a strong draw like QsTs or AsQs.

Tbh I feel like his range is very weak/bluff catcher heavy, so my shove is my trying to exploit that. I feel like a smaller raise size commits too much of my stack, so I want to maximize my fold equity. I think my value part of my range makes a non all in sizing. I am aware this is kind of exploitable, but my read based on appearance/Hendon mob profile is that he's an amateur.

Re: the backpack comment, if I see someone with a backpack that makes me think he put some preparation into this and he's potentially taking the tournament seriously and less likely to be a button clicker.
