$1100 MSPT tourney

Hero – young-looking, table knows I’ve re-bought (max two entries). I played only 4 hands total in 60 minutes of being at the table – twice I was 3bet/folded and once I played AK aggressively and won a decent pot. Overall table was super active so I was just picking my spots and playing really tight.

Villian – known aggressive pro player (on his 5th beer) – he plays mostly cash, no big tourney cashes. Him and another guy are the most laggy players at the table – both directly to my left and both have 3-bet me big already in the hour I’ve been at the table – I folded both times.

Stack size 18k effective, he barely covers.
Blinds – 250/500 – Ante 50

Hero AQo opens in the hijack to 1200.
Villian in the cutoff takes little time and throws out 4100 in a splashy manner.

The stack size made this somewhat awkward for me at the time. If we call we’re putting in nearly ¼ of our stack pre being OOP against a laggy opponent. An ace or queen only hits the flop 30% of the time and since I’m off-suit I’m not likely to get a flush draw. I tend not to get out of line much so I can just envision myself calling/check/folding if an ace or queen doesn’t hit. That seems so soft, though. I’m inexperienced in playing back at laggy players during live tournaments - the whole day was tough because I had two of them on my direct left.

I gave serious thought to clicking it back to 9k to let them know I wasn’t going to be pushed around but I’m committed at that point and it kind of sucks stacking off 20k with AQo. I really don’t love flatting a quarter of my stack here, either. At some point, though, you just have to suck it up and stack off versus laggy players.

What SHOULD be my plan here?

Sidenote: I ended up busting against this player in a blind v blind battle where he 4bet shoved huge with 66 and I had AK / didn't win. So that kind of tells you how he plays. Tourney updates says he ended up busting in 14th jamming 250k (twice pot at the time) into A K K flop holding 10 J (wtf?). I just don't have any experience playing against these super agro players and am trying to adjust.

Don't like clicking it back with this hand, he could be convinced to peel and we could be put in a tough spot post

Just rip it in or else he might just keep running you over

There aren't many players that I'm not jamming on here. Need a pretty strong read NOT to jam here.

Calling's out of the question, so this is either a 4-bet shove or fold. AQo is a nice hand to 4-bet shove because it blocks AA/AK/QQ and should get tons of folds vs. LAG HJ range.

Versus an unknown in a typical MSPT field, ugh, I probably still just shove but it really depends.

Folding is worse than calling (Unless the guy is a super nit who only 3bets JJ+ AK). Of course, 4 bet shove is clearly best.
