Which Little books are you referring to exactly Wowsoooted? He's got so many out there right now, he's written numerous tournament books. Which ones are you referring to?

yea dude harrington is ancient az fok, I mean everything is based around the assumption that people are x3 or x4 pre as std.

Its all about the new age material and sites, like don't bother with pokerxfactor or some of those old training sites lol

Is the advice and strategy he gives in "Excelling" any different than what he says in his "Secrets" volumes or is it pretty similar?

As an old-school player, I think a lot of the material in HoH remains relevant in today's game. I also liked Negreanu's "small ball" book, as well as Sklansky Poker Theory & Practice (although it's more relevant for live cash games, it does teach you the fundamental theorem of poker, and other gems, of which a LOT of tourney players remain ignorant).

I haven't read any Jonathan Little. I've played with him a few times and he plays super-standard and got lucky early in his career (2007/2008, when poker was very soft), with relatively poor results for the past several years (given how much he plays, I doubt he's covered his buy-ins for all but one of two of the past eight years - probably makes his money from the books/coaching!)

Edit: before anyone criticizes my relatively meagre live results, I don't play professionally, but consider myself a well-informed, enthusiastic amateur!

Just learn to play cash (the latest 2+2 Janda book is a good start).

The only adjustment you need to do for tourneys is that you decrease your open raising and 3b sizes as the your (effective) stack gets smaller, and how much, depends on what keeps you non committed, under around 30% of the stack in, so you have an option to fold if it gets raised again.

20+ bb stack plays about normal when opening (mini open if 20 bb deep) but not so when calling, as you don't so have the odds for sets and suited connectors, and if you 3-bet, it needs to be real small 20 bb or so deep, of course, to stay under the committed level, of that 30% or so. If you go for over, do it with a hand you won't fold to a reraise (or at least won't have trouble to fold it). You will have to think about these sizes vs. their stack sizes also, as they can put you allin with their 20 bb or whatever stack, or over 3-bet, or come back with a 4-bet, so that is what you need to think in tourneys, but that's about it.

10 bb you open all in, with same standards as you open normally, just a couple low hands off and a couple high hands in more.

Postflop also, it depends on stack size, and some psychological factors as early in game, late, his stack size, flop, but you bet and call proportionally smaller (kind of like you would go allin progressively by the river). I could think of also cutting one street from betting, instead, or not betting at all in cases it cripples you (to clearly below 20 bb, or some old school thinks to under 30 bb or whatever, thinking it to be the 20 bb, although that 20 bb is my line, but have you ever played that in cash cap games?) in a marginal situation.

When you get 3-bet preflop, there is no exact formula, but if the opponent goes allin for 10 bb (vs. your mini open), you tend to call all usual vs. a 3-bet, but not with your implied hands, small hands, but the small pocket pairs are marginal and fine vs. loose 3-bet range. Ace highs will add a hand or two, that you would normally fold deeper.

If he goes allin for bigger, you can figure out the formula (it is like how many times it is your open raise amount, as percentage or odds, and how often as so you need to defend it, although you mostly adjust to opponent's actual likely range and want about two kickers better hands than his worst 3-bet hands, as your minmum callers, as usual, even in limit holdem that is so when you 3-bet) or borrow a software.

That's about all there is to it, the rest being mainly non math based chatter, like you would have no idea of how to play no limit holdem, or even poker. And it is very outdated for today's math based gaming.
