NYC Games? NYC Games?

01-24-2015 , 11:32 PM
Just moved back to NYC from Dallas. Played a lot of club poker around the city. Looking for 1-2 and 2-5 NLH games in Manhattan preferably in Midtown or below. Joined two plus two specifically to get back into the scene. Either raked or home game style, and would be interested in TWTH nights and Sunday days. Please PM me with details. Also looking for somebody to share a car ride to Parx and Borgata for tournaments to split gas and tolls, I can drive.

Be aware club games have a ridiculous rake. Normally 10% up to $15-$25 for 1-3 and 2-5. They'll all tell you the same thing: the action is insane. In the end, the rake makes the game unbeatable

Club action is all but dead in the NYC area. The ones that do exist have rough rakes. And there's always the threat of raids. No longer a viable option IMO

They're nowhere near dead. The NYC games are actually bigger than ever. The smaller 12 games are tougher to find.

A question for those of you with experience in these games. When I was playing in these games before I always wondered if the steep rakes were beatable. That being said I would always try and weigh it against getting in the car, driving to Parx AC or Foxwoods, and what the true rake was for those games as it was free to just walk to a raked club game. Usually figured about 25 in tolls for the round trip and 30 in gas for Parx and more for AC. I would then usually play an average of a five hour session so another 11 dollars an hour in costs basically. In terms of true cost which scenario costs more in peoples opinions, the close high rake club games or the basic casino rake with travel costs?

Your hourly In a 2/5 club game in NYC is gonna be about $30-$50. Obviously depending on the people running it and add in any other bs high hand or bad beat promotion where they take out addition $$. If you're playing 5/5 or 5/10, they may not have dollar chips in play and you're tipping $5 chips. That adds up

When people talk about hitting the road for poker it's always Parx or Foxwoods. Can anyone tell me why AC is not an option? Seems like that would be the most ideal since I believe the train goes right there and it's pretty close.

IMO foxwoods is the worst option from NYC as it is the farthest. Sands and Parx and the closest to NYC however there is no direct bus to Parx which makes sands an optimal choice when taking public transportation. Not sure why Sands doesnt get more love in this category. I have traveled several times from port authority to Sands and found it to be very simple. Depending you the games you are playing (if you want mixed games especially the big ones) your going to have to go down to AC but this is about an hour further.

There is no longer a train to atlantic city, only busses from port authority or from chinatown

I have never been to Sands but Parx drive is only a little over an hour from my place on the West side. How much is the bus to Sands? Is it direct? How is the action there for 2-5? Probably a lot most cost effective than driving to Parx.

It is a direct bus from port authority to the sands casino. Costs $30 rount trip and they give you $45 in slot dollars. There 2/5 is 200-800 i believe and they get pretty good action. Check out the bravo app which will give you a better idea of what is running and when

Some of that is true. I haven't found any games I like
To play at in the city for a few years. There are a couple
Good ones I like a little further out. The whole thing is
I'm kinda spoiled to playing in a nice looking place
And that is hard to find in NYC

looking for a 1/2 or 2/5 game in NYC without crazy rake. there's one pretty fun game i've mainly played at a bunch but it's 10% up to $15 and they probably normally take more in the big pots. i feel like there has to be a decent 1/2 game somewhere where it's capped at $10 or less?
