NYC Games? NYC Games?

Hi,

I would like to play in a home game if any available in the City.

But, def a home game (no house, rake; just like 8-10 players looking to drink, joke around, and have an inexpensive fun few hours on a Friday or Saturday night).

I am trying to get better at poker - I'm super-happy to attend a home game, but it'd be cool to meet other players looking to improve as well.

Also looking to meet a few poker buddies who might want to take the bus to Sands once in a while.

Thank you

+1 to this. I'm down for 100nl or 200nl.

Maybe not in brooklyn that's a bit far but anywhere near WTC or manhatten is fine.

+1 to this. Anybody with a home game in the Manhattan / Brooklyn area has a few people if they should have room.

Hey, looking for 2/5, 5/5, or 5/10 NL games in NYC. Used to play at str@ddle in the good old days. Lived in CT and played at Foxwoods for a couple of years. Would appreciate if someone can PM me with what's out there. Thx

edit: I do have a day job, I'm really a casual player looking to get back into playing more frequently

Would anyone potentially be interested in participating in an unraked mixed game? I can host at my apartment and have a legit table, cards, and chips.

Thinking 5/10 or 10/20 maybe OE, HORSE or 8 Game.

Any interest? PM me!

Just moved to NYC from Philly a couple months ago and looking for a home game. Will play pretty much anything, but 1/2 or 2/5 NLH or PLO preferred. PM me with info!

Looking for a good, non-sketchy, not outrageously raked 1-3 or 2-5 game in the city, preferably in downtown or midtown. Please PM me if you have something in mind. Thanks!

I'd like to host a $.25c/$0.50c NLHE game in a few weeks. Gauging interest, am based in west Harlem, steps off the 125th ABCD. Non-raked.

In regards to people mentioning traveling from NYC to find games - how come Sugar House in Philly has not been mentioned? Anyone played there/know how it is?

I go fairly often. It's a good room that's well run and will always have 1-2, 1-3 and 2-5 running (at least the evenings I've been and every weekend). Often has a table or two of PLO and also has some shovefest tournaments that can be a laugh.

Play there in general is absolutely terrible as with all low stakes poker really, but particularly amazingly bad when you get drunk Philly folks coming in at the weekend.

My parents live in Philly so I'm there every so often. Nice sized room, though not as big as Borgata or Parx. Buy-in structure is very nice though, 1/2 is capped at $300, 1/3 is capped at $500 and 2/5 is capped at $1000, so you can play deep. My experience though is unlike some other rooms, people playing 2/5 generally are not buying in at the cap. Decent food, but the drink service is pretty slow. Very, very convenient to central Philly, and therefore one of the easiest rooms to get to from NYC if you don't have a car, there are obviously tons of ways to get to Philly from NYC.

Agree with this almost totally, I've played 2-5 there only at the weekends that I'm already winning (I'm generally only playing 1-2/1-3 when I'm there as when in Philly am usually visiting mates and drinking), but in my experience then it is playing generally deep??

The drink service is pretty terrible but I run to the pizza place and buy a PBR tall boy for $2 instead of paying $1 tip for smaller awful beer when I'm drinking. Or just say **** it and try to get others at the table who aren't drinking to order shots alongside. If I'm not drinking there's a massive bowl full of waters you can take for free on the wall to the right of the cage (as you face it).

If you're just balling and don't care then go to the frog and chop house Hugo's and pay for a proper drink (they have servers ducking about too if you want).

I'm used to very deep games, so this game plays reasonably deep, just not as deep as it could play if people routinely bought in for $1k. I don't play at Sugarhouse that often, but when I do it's Saturday evenings and I see most people buying in for $500 or less and only some buying in more. In some ways, the 1/3 may be a better game, since it's not the biggest game in the place and does play pretty deep.

This is what I'm wondering myself. I did well at 2/5 last weekend my first weekend playing there but there were stretches where the game was very tight and not a ton of available money on the table. So will def consider playing 1/3 if its a more live game. I'm going back next weekend.

Also what are people's thoughts on a buy in strategy? In a game like 2/5 where people are routinely buying in for anywhere from 200-$1k with most people doing $500 - how much do you buy in for? My general feeling is that 150 BBs is kind of "enough" in this situation so I generally buy in for like $750/800

I like playing deep so usually just buy in for $1,000. I have a job though and don't worry about bankroll. Often if you have $1,000 you may be deepest stack at the table anyway, especially at a new table.

Putting out there again, still looking for games.....

1-2 to 2-5 NLHE, pref 1-2/1-3 (because NY games tend to play deep and high variance anyway).

Will also play 1-2/1-3 PLO

I live in Sunnyside, work near Times Sq but am happy to travel for a game (prob not to like Pelham or Sheepshead Bay though).

Also happy to meet up for beers to see if I pass the "not-a-psycho test"
