Yes, $15 daily and $15 an hour.

They do offer a monthly which I forgot to mention which is $150.

Their rates are higher than Mint and the others popping up but they are in one of the most expensive parts of Houston so I understand why

It sounds like the Houston rooms are more expensive than the Dallas rooms in general.

FYI, the daily membership for Poker Rooms of Texas in Plano is just $5.

The $15 an hour wouldn't be that bad if they provided free non alcoholic drinks, but they won't, which is disappointing.

in answer to the question on the decline of poker in general - i haven't found the original source of my numbers but here is a more detailed one than I found before
https://www.safestpokersites.com/blo...ed-since-2012/

This is not the original site i found the 22% / 27% but the numbers nearly match
https://www.pokernewsdaily.com/decli...r-poker-29547/

Another one bit the dust recently
http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news...ose-poker-room

And you are correct - I don't trust Eakman but I am in favor of every other room in the Houston area plus friends with several in the other cities around texas

What's your opinion on Post Oak, Clive? Don't think I have seen you address your thoughts on it specifically unless I missed it, which is a little surprising.

Bill Heuer is a friend as far as I am concerned..I admire what he is doing with the upscale approach...I don't totally agree with it for I have never viewed poker as an upscale game but he is an honorable person - has raised millions of dollars with his I-host company.

I have never heard a negative word as far as business practices - do I think he should take the route of challenging the system to "push" for legalization...no...but he has more resources and contacts and if there is anyone that could do it..I would say it is he

If asked a direct question - I will always give my full answer - sign my name to it and will stick with it until I am proven wrong and will admit when I am wrong and apologize if I offend wrongly.

My two cents is that this will play out like this did in portland

Well, that's good to hear. I got the impression of most of those from the interviews I have seen of him and when i talked to him at the club (I do not actually know him).

How long do you think things will be able to last before a Portland-like situation shuts down the fun?

...it's getting interesting lol
I bet if you dig hard enough this leads to a casino funded campaign. Since its mainly attacking Houston, I would lean towards the Louisiana casinos, with the recent pop-up of several DFW clubs, I would wager it won't be long before the Oklahoma casinos make some kind of move.

My impression was that the SIGH was pro-sportbook betting and is backed by the casinos - that is what i got from the digging i did...

As far as the houston scene...I expect it will be regulated and that certain standards will have to be met for licensing

Yep, I was mentioning that earlier. Tillman Fertitta (owner of Golden Nugget, the most prominent casino in Lake Charles and newest, closest one to Houston, for those who don't live in Texas) lives literally less than 1 mile from Post Oak Poker Club. He has to hate it. Although, he has never emphasized poker much at Golden Nugget LC (never had a single tournament and poker room only has 6 tables) so he may not care all that much, I guess.
08-15-2017 , 10:18 AM
I actually asked one of Tillman's vendors (source confidential) and though he might have a residence of some form near Post Oak...that is not his residence (main?) - honestly the problem is should these rooms be regulated - they might indeed be zoned to certain areas (not within x distance of school / church / a politicians favorite strip club) and that might push Post Oak to move their location. Of course that might result in either grandfathering it in or paying for their move.

In essense - I see this as a minimum of a 2-4 year lag of in court / out of court and probably closer to 6 yrs of back and forth. Just my own vision.

I dont think LC rooms are worried from a corporate level I mean what percent of revenue would be in the card room. If it was a money maker they would have expanded and promoted more sorry I just dont see this as a priority for them

It's interesting to me how Golden Nugget Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Biloxi are seemingly so much more invested in poker than GN Lake Charles is.

After seeing what Winstar and Choctaw are able to pull from the DFW market, seems like a Lake Charles casino should have a huge poker room. I always look on Bravo and the wait lists are often 30-40 deep on weekends at Golden Nugget and Lauberge.

I guess Golden Nugget Lake Charles just doesn't need it right now. They keep building hotel towers and raising room rates. When you can charge $450 a night on Friday and Saturday for the basic room, who cares about poker? I think Lake Charles just passed Shreveport for largest gaming revenue in Louisiana FWIW. The state really needs to give the city another gaming license. The market is there for one more 1,000 room hotel/casino.

Played at the Plano room for the second time last night. Really fun - don't know that I would make the effort that go to elsewhere as long as it is open. $10/hr, no other fees, free beverages and snacks. And the action was no short of remarkable. Like best I've seen anywhere. Could have been a full moon or something but it was nothing short of amazing. Small complaints like they are really loose with the table talk and changing tables sucks, but all in all a great experience.

Any update on the Bets 4 Vets venue? Website says the opening has been postponed.
08-15-2017 , 08:01 PM
thank you for asking...frankly - two issues
a - A/C problem delayed
b - this issue over zoning has me in a wait and see

I am not going to open the club as a revenue generation - I don't want to become a non-profit org - the paperwork is insane

Personally...I would like to have the model as a "one price" for a member / month (if 100 members and overhead is 4k it would be $40 month - the door fee would be enough to cover sodas/snacks and finally the members would divide the overhead of the daily by the number of players - with security/floor (non tip employees) - it would be about $50 / hr..so if 30 players then less than $1/hr - add $1 more for the dealers and they keep their tips.

That's my model - basically a members only (comfortable base) - employees get 80% of profits and we can donate rest to veteran causes.
08-15-2017 , 08:06 PM
Well, looking forward to giving it a try. The location is 10 minutes from my house so I'm hoping it works out.
08-15-2017 , 08:21 PM
In the meantime...i fully support what all the others are doing (except one..lol) - I see this as a great opportunity for Texans to have a place to play poker at a reasonable amount that is close to home and they don't have to travel and the money can stay local to generate jobs / taxes etc

The market place will "vote" by their offerings of prices vs accessibility vs perks - I feel that the customers (poker players) have not been in such a win / win situation in a long time.

Totally agree. Dumbfounded that one of the smaller tours haven't run there. Lauberge (?) Has that giant hall that they could put a bunch of tables in. Especially when you see how well the OK casinos do. Maybe there is some corporate thing with them not wanting to affect Mississippi casinos.

http://bigtexaspoker.com/ in Plano/Richardson opens next Friday (8/25).

They mentioned a "soft opening" before that. Has anyone heard anything on the soft opening?

www.acessocialclub.com opened yesterday - was hoping to go up there but there seems to be some confusion in their tournaments - i will clarify before posting

Overall, the average customer was probably a 45 year old casual recreational player. Not many young guys in there at all and play was pretty tight and passive. I played for 4 hours and I think I saw one 3-bet. (granted, I was only playing 1-3). One guy tried to limp reraise his pocket Aces UTG and no one raised him. He got 9 callers.

Someone did the under the gun $6 straddle only twice over the whole four hours. The games were pretty quiet. No chatting or talking at all at my table. The dealer even kept commenting on it. Sort of felt like people were cautiously trying to feel each other out and did not know what to expect. I didn't see any horrible plays, nor anything impressive either. Overall, pretty middle of the road, I would say.
Finally got to check out Post Oak last night, and I liked it a lot. I'm quoting the above post just to say I jumped in a 1/3 game that couldn't have been the more polar opposite, it was interesting. Myself and one other player were pretty TAG, and the other 7 were the loosest, most aggressive players I have ever played with, it was pretty crazy. The standard preflop raise was $25 and 3 and 4 bets were very common, every other hand I'd average. Multiple all ins before the flop and c-betting with middle to low pair for $100+ was beyond common. If action was your thing that was the table to be at, it was an experience.

I used up my 4 timecards for 2 hours and ended the session down $400 thanks to being on the losing side of boat over boat and set over set twice for my stack, but what are you going to do.

The venue itself is pretty great and the bartender said they expect to have their liquor license in the next 3 or 4 weeks when the paperwork clears. The uniformed Harris County Sheriff outside even walked me to my car where we chatted a bit about how he plans to bring his wife next week to lose some of his hard earned cash. If I had to nitpick, I'd say the worst part of the place are the 8' home game style folding poker tables and the somewhat uncomfortable chairs, which were made more uncomfortable by being squeezed into the small table. 4/5

I'm guessing that Prestige Poker room in Austin is struggling as they are consolidating to 3 days a week:

Tuesday: 8:00pm – 2:00am

Friday: 8:00pm – 3:00am

Sunday: 4:00 pm – Midnight

I know the owner - great guy - he understands that most players play a few times a month and rather than have 5-7 weak games a week - better to have 3 great games with nice action - it is better for everyone - the players / the dealers and the management

look for great things to happen here - new to the business but has a heart of gold for giving the players quality over quantity

Add another poker room to the list for the DFW area.

These are starting to pop up like self serve yogurt shops.
