replays arent seen as part of your current campaign. Thats why you dont get new mercs or tech if you replay and why going back and redoing them doesnt allow you to complete bonus missions you missed.

I dont dont know about skipping missions but it only makes sense that you can and probably should. The achieve doesnt say you have to complete every level, just the game. edit: yo obv cant complete every, every mission because you have to pick one during the campaign. But since Char is a PoNR there are probably several non-picked levels you can skip

If you screw up a mission you dont have to restart the campaign. Just load a manual save sometime before the completion of the level. I'd recommend always saving the game a complete minutes before you finish the level, that way if the time is bad, you can reload it, and then restart

I cheesed the missions and played all of them and still got it <8 hours so I guess the game still gives me about 40minutes-1 hour of leeway though

Should I participate in the practice league or not? Given that Im for all intents and purposes a complete noob at multiplayer SC? OR should I just practice against the AI and use the build order trainer until I am comfortable and try to jump right into placement?

The AI will probably be tougher than 99% of your opponents in practice league, but practice league is good to get a feel for how a human opponent builds and reacts. Either one is fine.

Played a guy this morning who was raging about a bug in the game that wouldn't let him attack my nydus canal. Watched the replay and it turns out he was trying to hit it with my changelings. I don't ever want to leave gold.
