How do you guys prepare for a 6 pool rush on maps where the entrance to your base is very wide?

I'm not a fan of completely walling off even on narrow chokes.

Only preparation you need is to make sure your gateway is double-powered, keep making probes, and pull just enough probes to stall until a chronoboosted zealot comes out. You can hold off a 6pool fairly easily even with a standard 13gate and end up way ahead economically as long as you don't do stupid things like try to fight in the mineral line or other chokepoints.

You can try sim citying around your nexus. It definitely makes dealing with the 6 pool incredibly easy (on scrap you can 13 gate and still not lose more than 1 probe to 6 pool no problem). You can then make the normal choke with your 2nd gate+cyber core or 2nd+3rd gateway or something.

I don't recommend it on smaller maps, though, since random **** like 10 pool into banelings is nearly impossible to deal with, since you will never have the chance to wall, though with sick force fields you might be ok.

Re: The Protoss Thread

Just watch the hatch timing as soon as its late scout the main because its banelings or a roach bust. Pretty much any build order can hold it from there just drop a 2nd gateway after your cyber and micro and use your ramp.

Re: The Protoss Thread

As far as 7rr goes, it's going to be more likely and more effective in closer positions. So keep that in mind. You should try to fast expand whenever possible, but any 3 or 4 gate build should fare well against a 7rr.

For the banshee raven marine push try to get him to use his pdd before he gets to your natural. Aside from that I don't really know, I've had success with one base colossus or 1 gate expand when you are a bit further apart. But I don't know a sure fire way to stop it.

Re: The Protoss Thread

From what I can see, if he gets all the way to your natural and lays his PDD, you're dead.

When you see him moving out you need to engage him enough to make him lay it and then back off.

Re: The Protoss Thread

Hey guys - I've noticed that one of the things I need to work on is using my chronoboost. It's easy to find things to chronoboost early in the game, with probes that need to be pumped out and an army that needs to be built. So early on I try to stay on top of chronoboosting either my nexus, gates, or warp gate tech. If I go robo tech I'll often chronoboost immortals/collosi. Later in the game I'll try to chronoboost any tech/upgrades I'm researching. Where else do you guys spend your chronoboost? Do you just throw it on your warp gates on occassion when there's no better place to use it?

One area I'm definitely lacking the most in using CB is when I get my expo up and have like 12-16 probes on each mineral line.

Re: The Protoss Thread

Depends what kind of build you are going for.

Obviously you want to use the first two on your 11/12 probes and 13/14 probes most of the time.

If you are 4 gating, you stop there and save it up to use for the first stalker/warp gates.

If you are going for a +1 timing attack say vs Z you want to use the c boosts on your forge.

If you are facing a lot of pressure and you have extra resources you may want to c-boost your warpgates. But I think it's pretty obvious that you don't want to just waste them on warpgates if you don't anticipate being able to afford it.

Thermal lance/colossi are frequently c-boosted as well. Or a void ray.

I mean like I said it depends on what build/timing attack you are going for. As the game goes on I'd be more worried about having the proper number of production facilities. You don't want to waste c-boosts if you could have instead produced more gateways earlier or something.

Re: The Protoss Thread

Is there any easier way to warp in units other than pressing W+Z/S/E/etc+clicking that doesn't force you to divert your attention from a battle?

I think I might start bringing a warp prism with me to make reinforcing easier.

Gospy - I meant later in the game. And yeah, chronoboosting my gateways isn't something I often need to do later on, unless I've been failing to spend money.

I'd only cb warpgates if I have enough for all of them because I like to keep them in sync. I try to chrono all upgrades and robo/stargate production later in the game. Also chrono nexuses when a new nexus is being built so I have more probes to transfer when it's up.
