I'm pretty hyped for this one. How could you not be, when the player list looks like this? Or when the prize pool is a single, winner take all $100,000 payout?
We have sixteen of the top players in the world. While the player list is a bit Protoss heavy, the best race has sent many of its most successful players ever out for the crown. Who can deny
MC has the experience and micro to get hot and pull it off? Or
herO, whose GSL success and recent IEM win peg him as my favorite to take the entire tournament?
However, let's not forget the other Aiur representatives. Team Liquid's
HerO, the winner of the most recent IEM tournament not a month ago. He'll be looking to avenge his recent early departure in WCS America, as will
NaNiwa- a player who recently announced he would be taking some time off after this tournament. Would anyone really doubt a huge showing by the one guy who seems to show up only when everyone forgets about his massive talent?
This isn't even including the self proclaimed PvP god,
Oz, the actual PvP god,
San or the 2013 Dreamhack Summer champion,
Stardust. Oh, and there's that
sOs guy too- I hear he's pretty good. Didn't he win BlizzCon or something?
But on to the more fun races.
Polt has enjoyed a massive resurgence in 2013 in which he once again established himself as a favorite in any tournament he enters- his recent showing at IEM, where he took out such players as Classic and Rain, should prepare him for the many Protoss players he is likely to face if he makes a deep run. From the European region, we have
jjakji. Like Polt, jjakji has also enjoyed an recent upswing in tournament results. He's a favorite to take WCS EU...will he win this one. And lastly, there is of course, the other TL hired gun-
Taeja. The guy that can turn it on and win any tournament he enters. He was probably the most consistent player in 2013 outside of Soulkey; now we'll see if he can continue that into 2014.
Lastly, we have our three Zergs.
Rogue is relatively unknown outside of Korea, but he has been tearing up Proleague for months. It's his first big tournament outside of Korea, though- and if history has shown us anything, these players often flame out way earlier than we would expect.
Life stormed his way into the Ro8 of GSL through some excellent ZvZ. While he's unlikely to play a lot of ZvZs here (and his ZvP was rather shaky as of late), he's a multiple time tournament winner and a huge threat. Lastly,
Revival will probably not win the tournament.
But that's not all! We also have sixteen players battling it out for the last two spots in the tournament. Will
Dear bounce back from his GSL exit and regain the form he had in late 2013? Will
Jaedong finally win the tournament with the biggest first place prize ever (tie)? Will
Leenock demonstrate once again why he is one of the best weekend tournament players ever? Or will it be one of the others-
Hyun, Nerchio, JYP even. We'll have to see!
Lastly, we have our ELIte caster lineup.
No AIDS9, tasteless, or other overrated commentators here. Just the good ones.
