Who's the Donk?

Someone at my table got Pocket Aces (spade and Clubs) and raises. A person with 72 (spade and hearts) call their raise. The Flop comes AK3 of hearts. The guy with pocket Aces bet, the Caller calls. Turn card is a 5 of Heart. The guy with Pocket Aces bet and the Caller calls. River is a 7 of Spades. The 72 guy bets and the guy with triple Aces call because he thought to himself, "What the F***. This is bad luck, I hate myself and this game."

Well, he hated himself more when the other guy shows 72o and beat him with the Flush for a big pot. He could have saved money if he wasn't stupid enough to be betting when the Board is against him. What was he trying to do? Bluff? You just can't bluff someone who have it.

Okay. In the beginning the guy calling with 72o is definitely the Donk. But the guy with Pocket Aces was the Donk in the end. Believe it or not, this **** happens at my table last night and the Pocket Aces guy wants to cry.

The guy with Pocket Aces was calling the other guy a Donk before he left, but who was the real Donk and the real idiot in this situation. You can't just be dealt a good hand and win. The Flop have to work out.

How do you guys get yourself to let go of a strong hand when the Board is against you? It's tough when you're in the heat of the moment with a strong hand. You just don't want to believe that the other guy have it. This also happens to me sometime and after what happen last night I realized how stupid I much have look during the times when I make dumb call with a strong hand that is clearly beaten.

I played online a lot and usually blame the Donk when I lose with good cards, but it was my fault because I didn't let go. The outcome can easily change and those who can't adapt can't survive.

I've read so much article on players blaming the Donk for sucking out, but in reality, the person who gets sucked out on is usually the Donk.

I've done my fair share of stupid play and would love to share them with you guys if you guys can share some of your Bad play with me. Everyone wants to share their good experience, but the bad ones are the ones that will make us better. We all make dumb mistakes. I once called a huge river raise on a JJKK8 board with JA suited. The guy have K3 off suit, called my 3XBB pre-flop raise and huge post flop raise and hit the nuts. He was a Dumb***, but I called the Turn and River raise. It was such an easy Fold and I was unable to let go of my 2nd best hand. And I admit it. I can make stupid decisions sometime (or a lot of the time). I don't mind losing with AK on a JJKK8 board when my opponents have Pocket Jacks or my Queen-high Flush losing to a King-high Flush on a 3 suited cards board or when my AQ loses to AK on a KAQ83 Board, but this is as clear as daylight when that King hit the Turn.

Stuff like this makes me believe, if you don't have it, your opponent have it. Save your ammo to fight in another hand. The game will always be there as long as you still have the money. Some players if you count their loses due to Bad play, the amount like it adds up can be another bankroll. And bad play is not Variance (I just learned this). Variance can't really kill your Bankroll in my experience (some people over estimate Variance or blame it whenever they lose). It's your bad play that break your Bankroll.

So guys, what do you think. Who's the Donk?

Def the guy with AA, I mean trips is ok if it's a rainbow board but with 3 or 4 hearts out there you gotta just check and hope to hit your boat, if the other guy beats it's an easy fold cause flushes are stronger hands than 3 of a kind

There are two kind of Donk that exist in a hand. The Pre-Flop Donk and the Flop Donk. I don't want to be either, but I rather be the Pre-Flop and call with J8 suited from early position hoping to hit big, than being unable to fold a losing hand Post Flop such as AQ on a KQ6 Board with a massive raise. Pre-Flop always cost less.

With Pre-Flop all you have to do is be patient and wait for the right hand in the right position which should happen about 10-15% of the time out of 100 hands. Only the Donk of Donks loses because of Pre-Flop.

It's Post Flop that gets most people in trouble.

OK. You just asked who the donk is and I told you. I didn't need all the other stuff.

I agree with this strat, although I think really experiences and expert players (like Phill Hellmuth or Doyle Brunson) can navigate so well after they flop that they can profitably throw in the occasion T9 but I don't think anyone in this forum will be at that level for at least a few more years

Yeah amazing advice. I'm sure JD is good enough to throw in QJo every so often, but pocket Queens is the bottom of my range.

Re: Who's the Donk?

If I have all the tears that are shed on Broadway by guys in love, I will have enough salt water to start an opposition ocean to the Atlantic and Pacific, with enough left over to run the Great Salt Lake out of business. But I wish to say I never shed any of these tears personally, because I am never in love, and furthermore, barring a bad break, I never expect to be in love, for the way I look at it love is strictly the old phedinkus, and I tell the little guy as much.
