Re: Top five most famous/influential online LHE players ever

Everyone improved on my list. We really should do two separate lists, most influential and then most notorious/best.

Izmet/Angelina started a more aggressive style and a little different preflop strategy than S&M which was the bible back in the day. And they were the top-dogs on paradise.

Hosstbf should be number one because he was the first to non-trivially apply game-theory to lhe. And then he played an entire year without quitting an opponent until he lost to Ivey.

Stoxpoker I don't really understand. His book was by far the best though.

Count1729 while being the top dog for a long time had almost no influence on anything except being notorious in the very early days.

Erik123 and TLK need to be on the lists - I totally forgot about both.

Re: Top five most famous/influential online LHE players ever

probably gonna get flamed but i think an honorable mention should go to gatorade crazymike aka thorpie aka thecomplainer for his pioneering work to eliminate bots on top of the fact he was an excellent hu limit player.
back in the ub days where i played most of my high limit poker mike was just a beast at 50/100 and 100/200.
i took my shots at 300/600 where hoss was boss (poet?) but i lost tons of cash to fouzhoubaby and bmw750i who mike got rid of and i got SOME money back.

he had the ear of the security dept on all major sites..

my 2 cents to my fav thread past 2 years on this site

Are some of these really good bots a byproduct of the polaris project that beat Hoss and his team? Read somewhere that such codes are leaked out frequently... this sounds from before then tho

No.

It's good someone mentioned the bots, the good bots should make the list of most influential, simply because of the money they took out of the games.

The ones I'm talking about were all the same group, and they combined took out more money of the lhe games than any single player, by far.

Yeah I`d be interested to hear the 5 most influential bots or bot rings. I only assumed that project because It adjusted really well to playing styles- I would have assumed that is very difficult to program for

I'd hazard a guess that most are broke crumpets. Spending all that time on poker and then kind of disappearing is kind of damning. I'm kind of glad, it is slightly frustrating to see fools winning money. i.e the tournament circuit.

Re: Top five most famous/influential online LHE players ever

not many people talking about the count, i seem to remember him being an indian dude who sat in the big stars games 24/7 and i think he disappeared right around the same time everyone realized he wasn't top dog at LHE. maybe im mistaking him for someone else though.

anyways, here is my list:

1) DERB
2) DERB
3) DERB
4) DERB
5) DERB

If it isn't positive influences, what about SallyWoo/Chung? He changed the landscape of huhu forever...

Love you Chung

The U of Alberta AI group had several generations of bots before Polaris. Among other things, they field-tested them on the old play-money irc.poker.net server in the 1990s.

Oh, so they've been working on destroying poker for over a decade now. I did not know that.

People like SallyWoo were indeed influential, but of course in a completely negative way.

If we're going to put a "Most Infuential" title on the UB bots (as well as the FT bots an many others) it would probably go to Momentum Gaming (the company behind the bots) or Hein Hundal (the head mathematician behind the bots AI).

Can't wait for SillySal to make an appearance after my post!
