wanted - poker grindhouse in Colorado - Boulder, Denver, Louisville etc. area

So I'm here in Boulder aorn and the scene is ...

like pure ****ing heaven tbh. Cannot see myself living a mediocre, miserable life in bum **** Oklahoma any more. I'm determined to move up here permanently.

This thread will hopefully lead to something good.

I'm currently grinding 16 dollar SNGs for income, and I have family ties here in Colorado, and am completely in love with this place so I'm gonna see if I can get something together imo.

I'd like to rent a house with some fellow poker pros and make a grind house out of the place, which will obv also be a party house LDO cause the scene here is so ****ing sick.

Anyway, I'm planning on moving here. Won't be able to any time real soon, but hopefully not too far in the future. Just starting this thread to see what's going on with others.

I'm currently in Boulder until Saturday evening fwiw.

if people move in with you will they get custom titles?

seriously though it may help your cause if you were to post a few examples of nice houses in the good areas so people have an idea of what they'd be getting etc.

if you've never been to Boulder Colorado, you have no idea what you're missing imo. The surrounding areas are very nice as well, but Boulder is like the epicenter.

It is a college town, and there's tons of students there. Colorado University I'm told is a great school for science.

here's part of the university, not sure which building
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...8dc7c4bf_o.jpg

I live in Oklahoma and just got back from a week in Boulder. A huge contrast between the two states is the people. You look around in Oklahoma and all you see is fat people. Fat people everywhere, just waddling about.

I just spent a week in Boulder, you know how many fat people I saw? uh, maybe like 2 or 3 max. Only 1 that I remember seeing. Instead of fat people waddling around with their mcdonalds bags, you know what you see there? People ****ing running around and biking around and **** like that. Every ****ing where, there's all these people biking and running and every body's like ****ing fit at ****. And because it's a college town, there's tons and ****ing tons of hot students around there, and the party scene is simply amazing. Like the whole town of Boulder is basically a party.

Here's a pic of Broadway and Pearl street. Broadway is like the main road down into downtown Boulder and it's right along the campus. Pearl street is an out door strip mall with many stores and restaurants, and it's a pretty big tourist destination and also a local hang out for homeless people.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...a440d6ab30.jpg

The people you see in Boulder is mostly college students, wealthy older locals, or younger poor locals who are likely homeless. Hippies, you could say. If you're ever out in Boulder looking for some smoke, the ones to ask are the hippies, and the college students.

Now this brings me to marijuana. It's legal there for medicinal use. There are actually medical marijuana dispensaries in Boulder, and the rest of Colorado.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...thAboutb-1.jpg

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...9fb4d709de.jpg

Some guy told me they have like 80 dispensaries in Boulder alone. It just blew my ****ing mind completely when I found out. I used to live in Colorado from 2003-2004 working for my uncle, and last visited around 2006 or 2007, and the scene is just totally different now cause those dispensaries didn't start popping up until the last couple of years.

Also, and this is no **** imo, you know how they have apartment guides and car and job guides there in 7-11 for free like along the news paper and magazine rack? Well they have ****ing medical marijuana guides there too. For ****ing srs. It's insane.

Another reason I'm planning on moving there is the music scene. The music scene in Boulder is very very good from what I hear and what I've seen. The music scene is good in Denver also, and just good in general in the state I think. I'm a musician and I'm planning on getting a band together and jamming around town.

One of the most popular venues in Boulder is the Fox which is on the Hill just off of Broadway.

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...ox_theater.jpg

The Hill is also a great place to score some smoke. But the scene is different and it's almost harder now to get some if you don't have a medical card. But really you just gotta be local and meet some people and shouldn't have problems with any of that. And the stuff you get there is excellent excellent quality. It's srsly medical grade stuff. Like connoisseur material. Amazingly good bud.

Another very important thing is the poker scene. From what I'm told, the Boulder/Denver/Louisville area has a healthy poker scene. My Uncle was telling me of a guy he knew who owned a restaurant and was also a professional poker player, and apparently he's part of a large community of players there who play at homes and restaurants and bars. And also there's casinos in Blackhawk Colorado which is just like 30 miles or so from Denver I believe, and I hear those games are very good as well.

Pics of houses? ahlkjadl;skjfaldkjsf. I haven't posted any pics of housing yet

I mean, come on. Do I even need to? Just look up there ^

Boulder Colorado is a sick sick ****ing place.

And yes, there are very nice houses there too.

Louisville, which is a more economical city for housing, is also very nice.

Colorado is just such a beautiful state and there are so many amazing things about it. It's like going to a ****ing rare paradise going to Boulder Colorado from Oklahoma. It's such a god damn pile of cow **** here. This state is ****ing ****.

Can't compare. not. even. close.

How far away from Boulder is the nearest skiing you mean? Not sure really. I've only skied once in my life when I was a kid and I think that might have been in Vail, which is probably 60 miles away or so.

i am not too familiar with the boulder area, are there a lot of outdoor-type things to do around there (i assume it's in/near mountains) such as hiking/fishing/snowsports/biking/etc?

Re: wanted - poker grindhouse in Colorado - Boulder, Denver, Louisville etc. area

i would so go for this. If you can get me a visa of any kind id be on this like a whore on crack. :p

That is an awesome post though, more people should make posts like that, not sure about making homeless people a part of it but whatever.

Reason i asked about ideas of houses is to know what budget you'd be looking at, ie could be reasonable, could be balla. I like the sound of the College thing though. Maybe i could go to college

There is indeed. Boulder is just right off the mountains, and there's plenty of hiking trails near town. Also, biking is one of the most popular methods of traveling through town.

There's really only a few bad things about Boulder. The cost of living, it's more expensive than Louisville or Denver or other surrounding areas, and the traffic can be pretty damn bad, and that goes for all of the front range area. And some people complain about the people being rude or really aggressive drivers, but you're gonna get that anywhere there's a large population, and the front range area is a very large population.

Finishing up school this year and definitely looking into moving out West (I'm from Ohio)...this is something I'd like to stay in the loop with. Let me know what you find/when you plan on getting out there.

I probably won't be realistically able to move there within the next few months. I'm thinking I might have a shot at it like 6 months from now or so.

hey lirva. i went to school in boulder and its a great place. poker is okay, due to the fact that there are so many young people. the gaming laws changed just over a year ago and most of the 1/2NL games that you could find in the city dried up because all of a sudden, everyone could play 1/2-100SL up in the mountain casinos. we have internet though :).

im actually anticipating taking some classes in the spring or next summer, during which i might be playing full time again (SNE 2011 ftw!). so i could potentially be a grindhouse participant.

You should look into Fort Collins. I was born and raised in Colorado and Fort Collins is by far my favorite city that is not a mountain town (Steamboat, Vail). I lived in Fort Collins from the time I was 18-25 and absolutely loved it. It is about an hour or so north of Denver and sits just at the base of the foothills which gives you easy access to all of the outdoor activities that has to offer.

Fort Collins is also a college town (Colorado State University) and has a great feel and atmosphere to it. There is tons of stuff to do there and the people are awesome. The main area that has all the bars is called "Old Town" and Disneyland actually based their Main Street off this area.

Cost of living is much less than Boulder. I think the average home in Fort Collins is around $220,000 whereas Boulder is closer to $430,000. Rental prices for apartments and houses both are a lot cheaper in the Fort as well.

Just a suggestion, and good luck in your search. Colorado will always be home, but it is too damn cold so I am very happy that I moved to Austin, but if I were to ever move back there, it would be back to Fort Collins for sure.
