Fun multiplayer FPS?

Hey guys, sorry if this doesn't belong here but I thought it's the best place for it.

What would you guys recommend as a fun multiplayer FPS to someone who played counterstrike and quake 3 and loved them both? I'm lookjing for something easy to play, not time intensive (just like CS where you could get on a server pretty fast and play as little as 10 mins) and not hard skill-wise as I'm just looking for something to take the edge off when poker tilts me.

Thanks <3

edit: I'm an idiot, forgot to mention i'm talking about PC games

Team Fortress 2 sounds like it might be up your alley. It's a free game (micro-transaction supported) so can't hurt to try.

Re: Fun multiplayer FPS?

The lack of response is because this subforum gets almost no traffic this time of year, because everyone's sick of the previous COD/BF and all discussions about the new versions are in the main forum.

Why not COD? If you have previous FPS experience, I can't imagine why you couldn't just pick up and play. It's fairly deep, but it doesn't have to be. A Team Deathmatch game usually lasts around 5-7 minutes. The average Domination game is about 10.

You should be able to find Modern Warfare 2 (2009) for about $30 and Black Ops (2010) for about $50. I prefer Black Ops, but the forum consensus probably favors MW2. For a $20 difference, it's hard to argue against MW2. Just be ready to have your dick blown off constantly by grenade launchers.

If you want to go old school, the origninal Modern Warfare (2007) is still considered by many to be the best in the series, and you can pick it up for $15-$20. I have no idea how many people still play this on the PC, however.

As you have played quake 3 I would think Warsow and Quake live are up your alley. Atleast the dm/ctf matches, not duel possibly.
Both are free games.

If you can get enough people to play, classic Tribes is a lot of fun.

I don't care that much for Team Fortress 2 but people LOVE IT.

Re: Fun multiplayer FPS?

COD and BF3 are my first suggestions. Matchmaking in COD makes takes the annoyance of finding servers out. BF3 on the other hand has servers which is good because there are many different things that you may look for when wanting to play BF3 (hardcore, team size, map etc...).

COD games tend to be pretty fast and rarely go beyond 10 minutes (sometimes much less than that). BF3 games can go anywhere from 6-30 minutes depending on many several factors such as number of players. Both games are very fun for someone who likes FPS games and they are generally easier to learn and master than a game like CS. You can play these games for 10 minutes and quit just like you mentioned in your OP just like in CS as well.

Re: Fun multiplayer FPS?

Planetside 2 is a really great game but its not really casual. Has a fairly steep learning curve for an fps.

Re: Fun multiplayer FPS?

Definitely agree when it comes to PlanetSide 2, even though I suck at it. It also has monstrous system requirements. I guess Battlefield 3 would be a more casual alternative.

By the way, how many people still play the first Modern Warfare game on the PC? I'd be glad to play some casual rounds, but if only expert players are left I probably won't even bother with installing it, this game tended to be tough right after the release so I guess that if only die-hard fans are left the skill necessary to get some kills would be pretty high. Anyway, that's just speculation on my part, but I'd be glad if you could give me some answers
