**Results from my WPT challenge**


As we all know one of the most difficult things is avoiding the "landmines" that play so bad the first day of a tourny - get sick lucky - taking out good players right and left - get a huge chip stack and then of course they never win (or most of the time even cash)...

I couldn't avoid the most idotic landmine I've ever seen.

Set up:

This maniac was raising and reraising in or out of position - smooth calling raises oop - etc all day... he had already sucked out hard against 3 diff players in huge pots and now has over 76,000 chips (we started with 30,000).

In one hand very early - he raised and got called in two spots. Flop:

suits don't matter. This guy shuvs all in (WTF?) to 25grand when with like 1,000 in pot. One fold - one snap call.

Sick!!! qqq go down.

He proceeds to chip up then down then up then down - etc...

Oh I'm consitantly chipping up bit by bit...

Another hand - this guy shuvs 40K into a 2k pot on flop with gut shot only... a girl calls him with top two - this guy hits his gut shot - girl is out - this donkey chips up.

Around 6 hours in - I'm at around $48,000 - this guy has $76,000 when this happens:

He's utg+1 - I'm midd.

Blinds 200/400 ante 50

-He raises from 400 to 1400 (one of his standard overraises)
-I click it back to 3000
-All others fold
-He clicks it back for 7000
-I think about shuving - but decide top see a flop (partly trapping - partly want to see the flop - as I have position on the guy.)
**Pot about close to 24,000 with antes**

As 3c 9d (edited - had posted that the 9 was spade - but it was rainbow which made my decisions even easier)

He instantly leads out with 16,000

I pause for a second about what to do - just smooth now or just ship it as any raise is just an all in for me basically - and the guy isn't going anywhere anyway...

I ship.

He beats me into the pot!!!

I wondered later if I had shipped preflop if he would have mucked. (and did I really want that anyway??) Truth is he had called all in earlier on a guy with A9 - cracked the guys KK - another one of his great plays...

GG Me.

I so ***** hate that horrible play gets rewarded like that...

Would love to say it was fun - no real "names" at my table but they were all around...

No. Not at all.

kind of hard to get over (above wpt experience) but decided to mess around a bit today - played ONE of my 3rd steps and took it down!

so I have $1 - nice. (I know I should be a bit more enthused but still realing a bit from yesterday)...

But - I have to get over it - a challenge is a challenge. It's not really about the amount of money at this point - it's about good play and making something from nothing... and I want (us) to do that. I would love to see all the players participating in this thread to make a nice run! I think we can.

yea - i almost threw up. i just hate that play like that gets rewarded... i just stood there for a minute - then collected my things - everyone else at the table was silent - kind of in dispelief - as i was - and we all know what sick sht like that feels like so usually the table is as quiet as a funeral. (other than the idiot who was smiling - laughing - reaching out his hand for a shake)...I actually shook his hand - said good game and good luck (to the others) and walked away. I think I may have had a tear in my eyes from anger and emotion - but whatever.

the royal flush girls didn't even look good after that as i walked past their booth... (my attempt at a bit of humor to lighten things)

anyway - back home - woke up today thinking about (what else) that guys sick ass running flush.

in a prelim event at this years wsop (1500 buyin) i got knocked out early day 2 with a guys QQ vs my AA (all in preflop) - and it took a few days to shake off... this one will also.

but that's the way this game goes.

anyway - yes it's sick 3sixes - but here we are - back at our micro stakes (at least for online) - and moving on... kind of feel like...

sorry this is wrong - pot was about 15g at that point - making his POT size overbet of 16grand on the flop another one of his horrible plays / overbets that he had been doing all day.

DAY 4 OF CHALLENGE (for Chance)

Ok I had played a few funsteps late last night and this morning... actually (as mentioned above) won the 1st of the Step 3's that I've played. Won two out of two step 1's - won 1 out of 1 step 2.

Played a bit of 2c limit and won 11c total also.

Here is where my challenge roll is:

CASH: $1.11
STEP ONE TICKETS: 8 (left out of the 10 daily provided by merge)
STEP TWO TICKETS: 10
STEP THREE TICKETS: 4


Ok - I think I'm going to follow a suggestion by one of you above and win a few more off of steps before jumping in to the 11c's etc. I'm going to at the very least play out the steps that I have. And until I have more than $5 (maybe more haven't decided) - I'm still going to play the steps as they are free and a way to add to roll with no risk.

Have you tried the Minted poker freeroll steps?
