not the place to ask this question, but... find and download the free software ROI simulator. It will give you a great handle on what kind of downswings are possible and indeed likely based on the buy in and roi of the hypothetical player. You can input stats for a losing player, a winning player whatever.
You will probably be shocked at the potential swings in basically all formats of tournament poker if you have to ask your original question.
After than, research standard deviation & variance. (wikipedia/ and 2+2 have loads of info about these concepts)
When you get a grasp of these concepts, you will have a much better time with downswings. They are common, inevitable even for the best of us... by best of us I mean Yugioh not me

Lastly when you understand variance well it does wonders for tilt and gets you over the hump of focusing on results and not on decisions in game.
