I'm curious whether you think that's the best way to do it or finding spots for a month or so to grind a normal full-time schedule and then moving on and taking a week here or there totally off from poker, which also lets you visit regions/cities that don't have poker. The downside of that being that it can be hard to bounce back from total vacations in poker, and repeatedly doing it could be a challenge... The discipline aspect could be harder.
I did both - played at places for a weekend, and also for weeks. I was in both vegas and cali for quite a while. It's really awesome to stay in a new place for a long time. I love traveling but I hate being a tourist. Staying at a place for weeks lets you have a more genuine experience of what it's like living there. You get to try out more restaurants/bars (go to places you like multiple times ), explore more areas. Having poker is awesome for this purpose - you can travel for as long as you want because you are working at the same time so it's justified. Since there aren't that many good poker hubs around, I think it's good to play somewhere for a few months and travel to the surrounding areas (with shorter/cheaper drives/flights) on your days off.

Great post TJS.

100% agree that poker is hella boring.

Makes me laugh when I hear people complain that they're bored while playing poker.

You're supposed to be bored ya silly gooses!

Some pictures from my trip that began 4 months ago:

Lobstah roll, clam chowdah, clam strips, and seared scallop from a lobstah shack portland, maine (SO MUCH seafood there!!!)

I really got into oysters last year so of course I get to binge on these (0.50/ea happy hour in boston - with the average price of hotels at $240/night in the city, these are about the only things I can afford!)

Every dish seems to involve seafood in new england.. my heaven! The original white clam pie - the must try dish from new haven

NOT a pic of food.. NYC skyline

An attempted glamor shot of AC.. see it's not that bad on a nice day!

My view in vegas for a whole month.. unfortunately one of the few times I saw the sun (2nd day)

Red canyon. Not much of a hike because it was a pretty flat trail, BUT IT WAS SO HOT AND DUSTY - def one the most uncomfortable experiences for me. No idea how people used to live there.

View from the high roller

Dolphin watching in LA - saw a school of about two thousand. Pretty amazing - there were dolphins everywhere

Love the west coast.

San diego - more glorious beaches and sun

Got really close to some sea lions/seals

Disneyland - cali adventure (rant: most over-priced park ever for what it is, would never go out of biz because shame on the parents that didn't give their kids a childhood by not taking them to a disney park)

Aaaand back to food! Going north and now we are at seattle, WA

I used to watch this pretty decent AMC show called the killing, which took place in seattle. Every single episode showed it as being extremely rainy and depressing - but apparently it wasn't true all the time!

Going camping in the great big wilderness this week.. will be doing a bunch of fishing and hiking. Looking forward to disconnect from technology and navigate with a large sheet of paper. Will be setting up my first tent (and if that fails, sleep in the car My Journey in Live Mid-High Stakes). Hope I don't run into a bear!

August summary

August went by rather fast for me. I only played about 50 hours due to the lack of games in the areas that I was traveling in. Ran bad in all of the biggest all in pots (like obviously) - one was a coinflip, one was an 80/20, and one was a 90/10 - for about 1200bbs total. Super annoyed that I won't have a chance to make up for it before the end of the month, but since I barely played much I get that it's just the negative side of short term variance. I'm sure if I played another hundred hours this month, I'd be doing much better. My camping trip will be a good break before putting in good volume again starting in september.

Clap, clap.

I once climbed a mountain in Maine by myself and was very scared of bears and clapped and yelled a lot. I felt like an idiot, but I also didn't get mauled.

Thanks!

Ok just off the coast from LA! One of those whale watching tours. I did one with a glass bottom so you can see dolphin swimming with the boat underwater.

My inner arsonist is sad that camp fires are banned all over the place!

Heard about the fire fighters that died in the fire - quite sad stuff.
