Ahead of schedule in terms of hands played so at least I won't have to force myself to play whilst tired to reach my hand goal

Created a list of books that I want to read over this year and next (or next few years ). Many/most of them are unrelated to poker but just interest me in their topics as inspirational, self-improvement, philosophical, psychological, etc. I have already read a few of the books, but would like a re-read of them since I found them so interesting before.

I'll fall short of hand goal most likely this week. I ended up not playing at all yesterday and kind of just binge ate food and was being a lazy bum. Studied lots of poker and watched many videos, etc. But honestly it was a pretty useless day. But I'm OK with it, I guess having my first day in 5 weeks where I took a break from poker was good.

In other news, my final semester of college does start next week. Hand goal volume will be lowered to 10k hands/week from next week. But I'll still try for platinumstar this month if I can.

Also the shot at PLO25 is going rather well. Weekly update to be posted tmrw/monday.

Anyways here's the list of books in roughly the order that I want to read them:
1) Pot Limit Omaha: The big play strategy by Jeff Hwang
2) With Winning in mind by Lanny Basham

4) Blink by Malcolm Gladwell
5) Flow by mihaly csinmali?!?! (weird author name)

Bankroll = almost $1800

This week went pretty decent I'd say. I didn't make 15,000 hands but I got 14,000 so whatever... not too mad about that. Had one day where I just kinda did absolutely nothing/slept/ate junk and it felt pretty good lol. Especially since I've been grinding like 6 hrs a day for the past 5+ weeks, so I'm ok with having less volume this week and just having a day completely off from poker.

The week was very swingy. But I do think that I'm better than most PLO25 players including most of the regs. And I don't think I ran particularly good this week apart from a few sessions in the middle of the week where I ran really good. But apart from those few sessions hands 8500-12000 I'd actually say I ran pretty bad. Especially today's sessions were quite demoralizing lol, kept running into top of range, or potting on Flop+Turn only to get rivered, anyways yeah not much I can do about that. And if I'm able to have a breakeven day whilst running bad then that's great tbh.

With my roll at around $1800 I think I've established myself at PLO25. I'd have to lose over 30BI to get below $1000 which is where I'd move back to PLO10 and unless I go on a horrible downswing I don't see that hapenning. So yeah, pretty excited about that! Next stop PLO50, gonna start shot-taking that at $3500 I think, so it'll prolly be a while until then and I'll just enjoy grinding PLO25 for a bit .

It's pretty cool how I'm able to deal with $300 swings now lol. At PLO10 the biggest swings would be $100 swings, now $100 are totally standard and happen pretty much every session! So although I'm up $200 this week, I kinda need to realize that it's nothing and it could all be gone tomorrow if I have a bad day... Unlike if I was at PLO10 where winning $200 in a week is actually pretty good and would take a lot longer than just a session to lose all of it. I guess this is why it becomes more and more important to have good mental game and also just be an overall better poker player the higher the stakes you play.

My final semester of school starts again next week. I'll try to keep my volume up for the rest of the month since I'm on target to get Platinumstar this month so long as I can get 10k+ hands a week. The first few weeks of school are pretty useless anyways so yeah not worried about losing too much volume over that. Once I get platinumstar though I'll probably lower volume a bit and focus on school more. But I'll still set reasonable hand goals to ensure I progress as a poker player.

Goals of last week
15000 hands = 14,000, not too bad

Gym as usual, counts calories = success, except one day where I binge ate junk and didn't count calories

Game select properlly at PLO25+PLO10 and play as well as I can Played exclusively PLO25 and it went well

Finish listening to Jared Tendler's podcasts = Success, also started watching chicaojoey's/Joe Ingram's podcasts for fun lol

Watch some RIO essential vids = success

Goals of next week
15,000 hands (might come short again considering school starts.)

Do not skip any classes (this will be tough lol)

Got my weekly goal volume of 15k hands for the week and I'll call it a week. Gonna take most of sunday off from the tables. Just going to watch a bunch of RIO vids, gym, go to my parents house nearby to see them. Yeah, sounds like a good sunday. Maybe clean my appartment or something.

Graph for the week

Really rough and swingy poker week. The week started out pretty well, I was running quite well and had one session where I won 12BI. Then after that the short upswing ended and I swear I couldn't have gotten unluckier in some spots lol. Anyways, that lasted about 6k hands where I lost 20BI, I think lots of spew hapenned between these hands too though, not just run bad. After that the rest of the week was just rebuilding it slowly. Most recent session ran really good actually, which was nice. So overall a pretty breakeven week.

I'm kind of starting to enjoy these short downswing tbh and embracing them. Obviously I don't like the results, but what I do notice is that during periods of losing sessions I really review my play more and it forces me to try and find out the spots where I could have won more/avoided losing as much money. Downswings are the period when my game improves the most I think. Making a few adjustments here and there to see what I could change in my play to make it more optimal.

Again, I'm impressed by how much less variance is affecting me. I lose a 2 or 3 BI hand and I keep playing my session like ain't no big thang. lol, but seriously, I'm starting to embrace the variance.

In other news, I'm less than 200 VPPs away from platinum star, so I'm sure I'll get that sometime next week. Only a couple thousand hands and I should have it.

Sleep schedule is finally coming together and I'm starting to wake up at more regular times. Also, since school is getting into full swing and I'm definitely getting platinumstar next week, I'm going to lower my volume goal to 10k hands/week now. Although, if I get more, then there's nothing wrong with that of course. But 15k hands a week playing 4-8 tables is like a fulltime job in terms of hours played. I think 10k is much more reasonable whilst I'm going to school... Even though I'm going to ace all my classes or at least get B's without trying lol, so yeah...

Goals of last week
15,000 hands = success

Do not skip any classes = big failure, skipped every single one... But my sleeping schedule is fixed and I'm aiming for less volume with poker so I'll make sure to go to every class next week

Gym + count calories as usual = fail, only went 2x because my sleep schedule was very messed up, but it's finally back, and I'll go gym today

Finish reading with Winning in mind by Lanny Basham = fail, read about halfway

Watch a few RIO essential vids = success, watched more than I needed to. I find them all interesting though and I enjoy watching other people who are better at the game than me play. I try to see how my play compares to their's or just enjoy their play in general.

Goals of next week
10,000 hands and achieve Platinum Star

Do not skip any classes... seriously!

Gym + calorie counting

Hmm, also strategy wise. I've gone back to 3betting full pot rather than making smaller 3bets. I'm also 3betting far less often now. I just don't see the point unless I got a super premium hand that I can gii with on most flops since a lot of people just don't fold in 3bet pots so stealing is kinda tough so I'd rather bloat the pot preflop and push equity edges.

Also if there's a fish behind me and someone opens, and I got hand that does well multiway but is premium, such as AKT8ss or something, I'm going to flat rather than 3bet because I want the fish to come along and I got good multiway equity. The only hands I 3bet now are generally like big pairs or middle/small rundowns like 6789ds that sucks multiway but is good HU and it got some deception value so I like to isolate with those types of hands. But yeah, this may not be the best strategy in general, but in this player pool I don't really see the point in 3betting over like 6%. I only 3bet more now when I'm at a table where there's no fish, but if that happens I just leave the tables... So yeah.

I will admit that good aggressive regs who 3bet me like 10%+ can get pretty annoying though. I've started adjusting to this by opening less than pot (even from UTG) and tightening up when they got position on me, also 4betting light. Although I'm not quite sure which hands to do this with and whether there's even any point if I'm only 100bb deep. I can definitely see value in 4betting light when deeper (like 200bb+) though. Still experimenting with 4betting light...

Honestly it's all relative though. If I got position on a fish I'll 3bet him more often. But I notice my best sessions are when I 3bet less than 6%, and have a tighter range in general. VPIP of <25%.

Reason my 3b% can be so low is because I don't always 3b AA. Especially bad AA I'm less likely to 3b.

Barely played zoom PLO because I can select tables really easily at microstakes at all times of the day. The few zoom sessions I've had though have been rather good and profitable, probably variance... Anyways, haven't played enough to have a real opinion on zoom. But there's some thread here ( http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/15...-zoom-1461881/ ) showing winrates of zoom vs reg tables and zoom winrates are really low compared to reg tables up until midstakes. So, until I'm unable to table select as liberally as now I'll probably just stick to reg tables.

Interesting thoughts on 3betting. I vary that a lot too and not even sure what my real 3bet % is - its somewhere between 4 and 8 % lol.

Playing such bad C-game breakevenish/slightly losing poker this week. I play much better when I can devote my full attention to it rather than going to school, working on projects then finishing off a tiring day with poker or something... Also finding it hard to get volume

Started playing more zoom this week since it's easier to get in volume and also because all the tables today are either nitty or filled with long waiting lists...

#rungood

Diet has been way off today and yesterday... Gonna lift and maybe play again tn.

Just kidding, don't feel like gonna play tonight... Just gonna watch RIO vids lol.

Anyways, from my Zoom experience. I play a lot looser in zoom for some reason. Opening almost every button, 3betting a lot more liberally. IDK I guess reg tables and zoom are pretty different

I love when I just get in a groove. Flow, in the zone whatever you want to call it, the combination of conscious+unconscious decision-making just seems great. Playing 6-8 reg tables, decisions are too fast for me to even know what's going on, but I just click subconsciously and seem to be making all the right decisions...

These are the best kinds of sessions, it's nice that I'm also running good.

I feel like this is how I know I'm getting better though. Decisions that would have made me actually have to think thoroughly through the hands in the past are now just starting to be automatic decisions for me. So basically I'm "autopilotting" apart from certain more important decisions. And if I can autopilot and play winning poker then that can only be a good sign. It essentially means that even if I was to play my C-game, I'd be playing good enough poker to win at these measly microstakes.

I should be able to reach my 10k hand goal this week. Although, admittedly, it has been tough with school...

Bankroll from 1250ish to 2350ish. So up over 1k this month, not bad.

Started the month kind of deflated since I had just moved down from PLO25 due to a failed shot, and things weren't going too good at PLO10. But I achieved quite a lot this month. Successfully moved up to PLO25, got platinumstar, studied a lot and now I do believe I can crush PLO25 as long as I focus properlly. Also have really solved a lot of tilt issues, losing $300 in a session barely affects me and I'm just like "cool, bring on the next day" lol.

Been on a nice little heater the past few thousand hands!

In February I hope to keep grinding and winning... Pretty simple goals really lol. Don't plan on shot-taking PLO50 until BR at 3500 so yeah... Also I'll save my FPPs to cash out 150EUR at a time when I take a shot at PLO50 with 3500, that way I'll have even more of a cushion. So only rakeback for now will be from VIP milestone rewards I guess.

Goals for January
My final semester of college starts again on the 19th. I'll try get 15k hands/week until then. After that 10k hands a week during school. = Got good volume, almost 70k hands.
Finish watching all DC PLO videos, get essential subscription to RIO, start watching those. = Successfully finished all DC PLO vids, and got a membership to RIO essential. I actually am almost done watching all the PLO essential vids... I might start watching elite vids in February!
PlatinumStar (not sure about this, I might need to be at PLO25 to do this) = SUccEss!
Finish reading all online free literature I can find on PLO (donkr, nutblocker, omahawizard) = SUCCESS!
grow BR and improve, stick to BRM plan = SUCCESS!
count calories everyday (or almost), stick to diet+workouts = apart from a few days where I didn't count and pigged out... SUCCESS! Lost about 4lbsish, so, I'm on point for my weight loss goals by summer.

Goals for February
40,000 hands minimum
Go to most classes, and complete all assignments
Grow BR, and improve as usual
Finish watching all RIO vids
Read at least one whole book on my reading list
Do the whole working out and counting calories/dieting thing.

This week was hotter than the sun... And long may it continue. A wise man once told me that luck is when preparation meets opportunity, so I'll run with it lol.

Yeah not much else to say... And tbh, I feel like I deserve this rungood and am playing better than 90% of the player pool at PLO25 anyways.

Goals of last week
10,000 hands and achieve Platinum Star = SUCCESS

Do not skip any classes... seriously! = SUCCESS

Gym + calorie counting = gym yes, in terms of food I had quite a few "cheat days" or whatever you want to call it... Need to be more serious about diet

Finish reading With Winning in Mind by Lannie Basham = SUCCESS

Watch some RIO essential = SUCCESS

Goals of next week
10,000 hands

Skip no classes, complete all assignments

Can you explain how you table select, is it just the biggest pots and players seeing flops?

I colorcode everybody I play with so I know who I consider to be a fish/reg/badreg etc. If I see a familiar player who I consider a fish I'll join their table. Otherwise I just look at highest VPIP/players per flop tables and go on those waiting lists so long as there aren't too many people (<4) in line. If I see a table starting up and I don't recognize the players as regs I might join in and start the table up with them if I don't see any good reg tables. And I stay at tables until I see there aren't any fish with at least 50bb left or until I'm done with the session, so I'll often be at a table for 3 hours+ if fish just keep getting replaced by other fish at the table or a fish manages to grow a big stack somehow.

Finally, if I can't find any of those criteria and don't think starting tables is worth my time I'll just play zoom lol...

Yeah I don't have any hard rules on table selecting.

I have like no time to grind during school. I kind of set some sort of routine up since the start of school. So far this week I only got 1500 hands in...

Basically all my classes are on Monday. I got 4 classes monday that take up the entire day from 8.30AM to 7PM so Monday i stay in school all day basically. But then the rest of the week I only got one class on Wednesday and Friday. So what I've been doing recently is basically not playing any poker on Monday's because I can't... Then on Tuesday I like to pretty much do as much homework as I can get done. Then on Wednesday I finish up any homework, and I've still yet to play much/any poker by this point, but by this point I've done most my school work for the next week already, so I can just review/make corrections to the already done schoolwork and focus on poker the rest of the week I guess. But still, it's kind of annoying being on a 3 days off, 4 days on poker schedule and going from 0 poker to lots of poker everyday...

Anyways, I've been watching a few cool movies. Fury with Brad Pitt was really good. Also saw Into the Wild for the first time.

Also I decided to start on NoFap+NoPorn starting today. I did give it an attempt last year and got to around day 30 before making porn/fapping a habit again, but this time I wouldn't mind going forever lol. I just find porn such a waste of time that could be spent doing something productive. Also perverts my mind and basically makes me imagine every girl I walk across naked and want to bang them, which imo isn't healthy lol.

So I set up some guidelines I want to follow just to keep myself in general health and have a balanced lifestyle, in no particular order:
- Watch 1 movie of choice a week at home (minimum)
- Read 1 book every 2 weeks minimum
- Gym 3x/week minimum, Cardio 2x/week minimum
- Go out and have a good time with friends once a month minimum
- Contact someone once a week minimum (text, fb,skype, whatever, just him someone up and talk for a bit)
- NoFap, NoPorn 4ever!

Gonna start a session of poker now. I gotta grind a lot the rest of the week if I hope to get near my hand goal of 10k hands/week.... LETS GOOOOO

Pretty good consistent week, very happy with it although it's nothing special like last week lol. It was very exhausting playing like 10k hands in pretty much only 3 days... I've managed to start comfortably playing 8 reg tables too, so that's nice.

Most recent sesh:

A comment on my most recent session today. I wanted to just finish my hands so I could reach my volume goal for the week but I started the session in a wrong mindset, I also joined all available tables and was 9+tabling at a point and the action was too fast to follow... I spewed so many buyins at the start of the sessions. I was "bored/not focused" and that's a soft form of tilt and I got punished for it. Thankfully I somehow managed to get everything back for the rest of the session, but I can only imagine how much better it would have been had I not spewed at the start of the session. I should probably start some kind of warm-up routine or at least do something small to get myself in the right mindset before starting up a sesh. IDK maybe even just repeating a phrase and taking a couple deep breaths right before a session could help?

Watched a bunch of cool movies this week. Just feelgood and motivation movies. Fury, Into the Wild and Whiplash. Whiplash was probably my favorite because it's about this drummer kid who just wants to be the best drummer in the world and he'll go to the ends of the world to make his dream come true. Would recommend

Also I'm almost finished reading Why Women have sex. It's pretty interesting read. Women have sex for a lot of different reasons apparently -.- Not poker related at all. But still, Reading is knowledge, and knowledge is power...

Yeah I like to ramble a bit on stuff other than strictly poker in my thread. But I mean, external factors determine how well I play poker so much that leaving out some things wouldnt be justifying to this blog of PLO.

There's definitely some differences between PLO10 and PLO25. The regs are a lot stronger as some of them actually play for a living (I feel like) or are moving between PLO25 and PLO50 a lot. Fish are still fish though.

Pretty boring lame week. And not happy with my play either.

Once again I had to play all my hands between Thursday and Sunday. And Thursday's session was one of my worst sessions I have played in a long time because I came back from the bar where I drank with some buddies, so I had a 3000 hand session where I was basically drunk playing poker and I just couldn't think of any of my decisionmaking. Everything that first session was done on autopilot and I honestly should've lost more than 10BI in that one session... The rest of the week after that was just boring break even poker with the occasional spew. Too much spew this week because of boredom/frustration from not hitting any hands/flops. At least I ran good in AIEV but in terms of rungood/runbad I consider this a pretty runbad week lol.

On the positive this is my first week in like 6 weeks that I've actually lost (it was all either winning or breakeven before). So I'm fine with having an occasional lost week. But I definitely realize how having a losing session and another losing session over and over can affect one's confidence in this game. If I lose one session in the middle of a winning week/month I'm totally cool, but if I lose several sessions in a row I feel rather bad and start questioning my game.

I hope I can start winning in poker again next week. I'm used to winning and I think I deserve to be winning a lot and should be moving up stakes. But poker is unpredictable, just like life. Maybe I'll have another losing week, who knows? I can still be proud that I've successfully moved from PLO2 to PLO25 in such a short time. It's a big accomplishment.

One thing that bothers me is that with my school schedule and reading books I really don't find time for session reviews or hand reviews on my own. And this is something I feel like I have to do if I want to continue improving as a poker player, or even just not worsen as a player. During holidays I have plenty of time to study my own sessions and hands, but right now I'm basically just grinding and trying to watch RIO videos and maintaining getting good grades+healthy+social life+reading+poker and balancing all that is not easy.

I've decided by my own will and judgment that IF I can make it as a PLO50 reg by the time I graduate that I will take a year off next year and basically try to make it as fultime poker pro. And to be honest, I don't see any reason why I could not accomplish this goal of being a reg at PLO50 soonish. Kind of risky decision, but no successful man ever did anything big or lived a fulfilling life without taking a risk.

I feel like if I go fulltime I can dedicate a lot more time to studying poker and becoming an even better poker player and hence continue moving up stakes. Eventually I believe It'll lead to me being able to live off poker comfortably or better. It'd also be cool to travel and live in a foreign country whilst grinding, visiting the world. And just because I will go pro doesn't mean I won't stop my other endeavours. I'll still try to continue gaining knowledge through reading, I'll still be developing and growing as a person, and I'll have more time to dedicate to other things such as trying to improve my social life etc.

As for life. School is going good, I think I'll make dean's list again simply because the classes I'm taking are so ridiculously easy since I already took all the tough courses... So this semester is kind of a joke... I could easily apply to one of the top masters programs here in Brussels, but honestly I hate school now, I hate the thought of having to study something I barely enjoy, I hate regular work hours, I don't understand how most of my friends struggle or at least seem to be so stressed out by school when it's so easy. Also I don't understand how so many of them seem satisfied following orders and being told what to do. I don't want a boss. My mind is too free and independent and I feel like most people are enslaved by "propaganda" and how society has taught them to live, nobody is doing what they truly want to anymore. And I don't want to be another one of those people who is just like a sheep, getting by perfectly fine but not following his/her heart. Wow what a rant...

My weight is down to 205 from 212 since late December, so standard steady progress, I will hit my goal of 190-195 for the summer... Watched "Gone Girl", it was not bad, but honestly a bit of waste of time lol, was searching internet while watching it... NoFap is going good, haven't fapped in 10+ days. Have had sex a couple times, but no valentines, and tbh I couldn't care less about having a serious relationship at this point in my life, I just want to figure out wtf I'm doing for the rest of my life and work on it and make it...

If anyone wants a good book to read. I would suggest "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. It's a fiction book, but it inspires the reader to discover himself and fulfill his "personal legend" by following the journey of a shephard boy as he travels to Egypt facing multiple perils in order to find a "treasure". Definitely provides a lot of food for thought.

Long post, I like to ramble here. Writing out my thoughts is helpful
Good luck everyone

I really don't know why, but it's always the first session of the week that I really just play and click buttons without even thinking... It tilts me to know I'm not playing well and then I just keep on playing bad. TBH I"m happy I ended up breaking even at the end of the session.

At least this week is off to a more exciting swingy start than a lame boring breakeven 10k foldfest of hands. I want action baby, LETS GOOOO
