Played some 2/5 (the lowest/only limit) at my local yesterday. I don't have a heap of time in the evenings with plans and commitments with my SO, so have decided to start putting in some volume on my free days until the evening when I have stuff to do. The card room opens at 12 Mon-Thur and runs 24h Fri-Sun.
I am familiar with the way the game plays and a lot of the regulars, a majority of whom are droolers/degens and prey on the drunkards. The game is very passive pre and you can often get away with limping marginal hands, then getting paid by TPGK when you flop well. Anyway that's the lay of the land as I see it.
I cashed in $800 worth of chips (generally take $1k, but I had the cash so figured 1bullet and some reloads would be fine) Most players, regs included, don't play full stacks preferring $200-$400 so I generally find 2 bullets to be plenty and if I lose that then I am probably playing badly. Lets get into it...
I sat down full stacked and surveyed the table 4 regs I recognised, 1 spew bad, 2 old timers who peddle the nuts religiously and 1 young blood who plays solid poker. 2nd hand in the young blood 3bets his KK from the SB and 2/3 pots the flop and stacks someone so he is competent and healthily stacked, but unfortunately is on my left. That said he is not the type to 3bet light or make plays (not that I have seen anyway). I also recognise an asian gentleman as he is terrible and loves to chase.
So first hand of the day I got involved in, our terrible asian friend opens to $20, 5 callers, I am in the sb with A2o and call too. Flop AhAs2d, yahtzee! I check and am not disappointed as our terrible asian friend bets $50 into the $140, folds to me and I make it $150, he snaps and we see a turn 3h. I am confident that our customer can't fold any A here and bet full pot.
Surprisingly the villain folds and I am left wondering whether I butchered this hand. I am quite confident that the villain didn't have an A, but perhaps I should have half potted or less (~$200) villain had about $325 remaining and may have then jammed over with a weak ace..... Ah well I think he calls with Ax so I guess he could have had 99-QQ. Onwards we go stack about $725 at this point and am in for $600.
Then next hand of significance we wake up with 10-2o in the bb on a J 10 2r flop with 7 runners, we check and it is again checked round to our asian gentleman friend, he bets $20 and gets 2 callers, action back to us and we pop to $95. Our friend calls and the other two fold. Turn brings a 9c still rainbow and probably one of the worst cards in the deck for us, we were previously worried about J10 and now have the straight and 10 9 and J9 to be concerned with. To be honest we aren't worried about J9, but 109, KQ and J10 give us reason enough to check here, so we do. Our friend eyeballs us as he fingers his chips looking down at his stack as soon as the 9 had rolled out, generally an indicator that the card is bad news for us, #livetells, after a moment the villain checks and we see a river. without improving our plan is to c/c a brick and c/f to any AK8. The river rolls out a glorious 2. After some contemplation we value bet $185 and are instacalled, table the house and our hand is good. Stack ~$1000, in for $600.
Quite some time passes before any hands of note, we played AQo aggressively to a straddle that 5 people limped making it $95 and taking down $50 pre, After an absolute whale opens to 20 in EP for the 3rd hand in a row and 2 players call we 3bet to $95 with some broadway and a tight image, we take it down pre.
Then we wake up with JJ OTB, 6 limpers so we make it $35. 2 callers and we see a flop AsJs5s, checks to us we bet $85, a fold and a call from a solid playing new comer who has been passively losing chips, though from his talk sounds solid (with about $350 behind). Turn Kh, villain checks, we bet $145, villain tanks and folds.
I think if villain pushes it is hard for us to fold, given villain could be bad enough to jam 2pair, though it's more likely he calls unless it's AxKs jamming at us. A shove here is often a flush but with the A out villain would almost have to have KsQs, Ks10s, Qs10s and maybe Ks9s & Qs9s throw in one or two 7s8s and 9s10s but we don't see him playing many other Ksxs or Qsxs or lower spades that slow play flop.
Stack $1200.
We take down a few $100 pots with top pair and are ticking along nicely.
Then we are SB with Ad8d, pot is raised to $25, 6 callers including us. Flop comes 7h8hAs, we check and it gets to our asian friend who bets $50 ($500 behind), the whale at the table ($300 behind), who has dropped about $1000 over the course of 2.5 hours by calling with TPNK, calling flops and folding turns with head shakes ands muttering, also calls. We pop to $235 our asian friends tanks and calls and the whale folds. We are quite certain our fishy friend is on the FD. Turn 8c, checks to us, here we check so he can get there (though given he has only $300 behind and the pot is so large we should probably put him in and make him call off his remaining chips, given that he has shown us he is happy to chase, food for thought) anyways the river bricks our friend checks and we jam trying to rep a busted draw. Villain folds and we ship it.
Stack now $1900.
Nothing much happens for the remainder of the session, we bleed missing a few flops and take down a few small pots.
We cash out $2400 in chips, less the $800 we cashed in and banked a +$1600 session, not bad for a few daytime hours.
Chip porn (forget to get a shot of the tray when we cashed out with all our chips on it, ~$350 not on the table):
Whites are $1, I like my stacks level.
