UPAY4DINNER - Moving up the MTT ladder UPAY4DINNER - Moving up the MTT ladder

Hey 2p2,

Long time voyeur from the Rep of Ireland here.

I have been around the poker community for the last 5 years or so. I was staff at an another forum for the past 3 years but I'm no longer required there and it's time to broaden my horizons a little bit.

I've played every poker format over the years and I've finally settled back to MTTs since the new year.

In March, I had my biggest score to date when I finished runner up in MicroMillions #36 for $5.2k. Since then I've been on a rich run of form. I've compiled almost $10k in cashes since then and now that I have more spare time I am hoping for even further progession.

The main caveat is that I have a full time job, a wife and 2 children so I don't grind every day or every other day for that matter. I usually play some schedules on Wednesday's and Sunday's and I'm hoping to add some 180 mans during the week to speed things up.

Despite winning alot of money lately, with my loss of income I am keeping a BR of $1.5k and playing MTTs with an ABI of <$11. I tend to sell 30% of my action so it let's me play some MTTs over the $11 mark.

My goals for the remainder of 2014:

[ ] Win a MTT with a field larger than 5k entrants
[ ] Have 5 or more FT appearances
[ ] Move up so that my ABI can be $15-20

GL,

Gary

Nice weekend grind planned:

Saturday:

11.00 Bigger $33
11.30 Hot $3.30
11.30 $27 Turbo Progressive Super KO

12.00 $11 NL Holdem
12.30 Hot $4.40
12.30 $27 Turbo Knockout

+5 $8 180 man SNG

Looking forward to adding some 180s. I've been told the level of play is not so good so we will see how they go. I might start grinding them during the weeks once I'm no longer moderating so it'll be cool to test them out

Sunday:

14.00 Bigger $5.50
14.00 $27 Turbo Knockout
14.15 $11 Time (30 minutes)

15.30 Hotter $33
15.45 $21 Super Knockout

16.00 $27 Turbo Knockout
16.15 $11 Time (15 minutes)

17.15 $11 Time (30 minutes)
17.30 Hotter $11

Re-introducing Time tournaments as they can be quite profitable and can help add some $$ in returns.

I've sold 30% with MU so my ABI on both days is <$11 which will keep the bank manager very happy

Tried out the 180s, played 3 as I made an early exit in my debut game.

Not overly keen. My SNG game is vvvvvvvvvv rusty so I will need to spend a bit of time going over hands on SNG Wiz and HRC over the next couple of days. Great thing is I now (will have) the opportunity to work on my game and make myself a better player and drive myself to become a real-boy poker player!

Game 1:

I think it was the 5th hand, I open AJs from the CO, BU raises and I flat.

Flop AJxhh

I bet small, he re-raises small and I shove thinking yay heart draw let's dance and the ****er turns over Aces innit and I is crushed!

Game 2:

Exited in 65th. Lost a hand with QQ vs A9 vs 77 which put me below 5BB and I didn't recover. If I won that I'd probably have been top 5.

Game 3:

Min cash, although I barely scraped it finishing 24th. I do have a lot of work to do if I am going to play these during the week regularly.

Apologies for the lack of HH, I played them on my tablet

Right then, today is the the today we ship $10k and forget about the ****ty week that's just passed.

Today's grind is officially over and erm let's just say we fell slightly short of the $10k target!

Bricked in all the bigger buy-ins, min cashed in the two small hot turbos.

Had 1 FT in the $8 180 mans but came in 6th when I lost a flip with AK vs JJ that pretty much fked up any chances of profit for the day.

We'll have to wait until tomorrow for a decent sweat

The rest as they say is history........

You finished the tournament in 3rd place. A USD 774.00 award has been credited to your Real Money account.

That's 1 FT out of the way!

I finished on the SFT earlier in the 4pm $27 KO

Been running a loss the last 2 weeks but hoping to turn that around this weekend.

Running a decent schedule and hopefully can get a decent sweat going.
06-08-2014 , 05:44 AM
Had two decent sweats last night but bricked the big moniez.

Finished 16/391 in a $51 Hyper and 40/1k in a $27 KO so I ended practically breakeven on the session.

Today I have 18 MTTs planned, not sure if I will play them all but we will see how it goes:

13.45 $5.10 Hyper

21.15 $25 Hyper
21.30 $5.10 Hyper

This will be my last Sunday grind for the month
06-12-2014 , 03:03 AM
Yesterday was fun as I added 2 more FT appearances to my resume.

Both we very different, the first was a $5.10 Hyper from the very early morning. I navigated my way through 550 odd players and entered the FT 3/9 with a few shorties on the table.

One busted very quickly, then the rest proceeded to double up right, left and centre and with the blinds going up so quickly I was soon near the bottom.

There was 2 confirmed whales (one of which had a turned a gut shot earlier in the tourney) and when he limped UTG I snap shoved from MP for my last 8BB with JcQc. The CL in the SB shoved over the top with TT and the whale called with AhQx

Board:

JhQh9h

Turn:

x

River:

8

So the TT won and both me and the whale were gone and I finished in 8th for a disappointing $65

***************************

Later on in the morning I had a nice run in the 12:30 Turbo KO and I was unlucky to run my JJ into KK pre for a top 3 stack with 15 people left. I made my exit in 15th.

***************************

In the next $27 TKO of the day, I somehow managed to take a short stack all the way ITM 34/36. Then I won a few pots and picked up a bounty and suddenly I was 12/24. Things got even better as we headed closer to the SFT and at one point I was 2/12.

I then lost a crucial pot BU vs BB with A9o losing out to JJ and all of a suddden I was 8/12, 8/10 before making the FT as 8/9

Over the next 6 hands, 4 more players were eliminated in what can only be described as FT carnage! I was happy enough to finish in 5th for $300 (incl bounties) especially after being short for the whole MTT and at the FT.

I shoved KTo for my last 4BB but the CL swallowed me up when his JQ found a J on the flop and that was me done.

TL;DR: 2 FT and a SFT yesterday.

Looks like ur playing a bit too high for ur bankroll even with 1/2 sold as you will be encountering bigger fields=higher variance, and also half ur mtts are turbos which increases variance, would def cut out any hyper over 5.10 for now, as for 180s i would play 3rbs as they not as swingy as standard turbo 180s but you'll have to sell half of that action too coz u just dont have enough bis in your account especially if u want to withdraw some profit at end of month or whatever, @rungoodearly....

Hey hey, thanks for your post.

What kind of brm would you suggest?
06-15-2014 , 04:14 PM
A lot depends on whether ur reliant on withdrawing at end of month or whatever, but u said u have a job so thats a good thing, looking at ur last schedule the cost to play it is $456, so u said u have 1.5k br and a backer which i presume is matching that so ur roll is 3k, 3000/456 on one given day is 15.2% of your bankroll, ur abi was $25.33 or u could say 140 buyins, whilst it might seem a lot for the said games you are playing believe me its not even close to what u need to survive, now u might hit a score early and good luck to u in doing that but in the games u are playing its simply not enough imo, u said u have small kids and not much time to play etc so i can understand why ur schedule is turbo based, there are other sites apart from pokerstars too, u could alleviate a couple of them into ur schedule and lessen the time spent at the tables, ur last schedule u are reggn for 9 hours, u could reg for 2-3 hours across a couple of sites and get 18 in and more, play some 3rbs at end of session to make the day worthwhile.

Wow, cheers for the explanation.

I am not reliant on withdrawing and will be keeping my roll unless I have a big score. I have a very good reputation elsewhere and I am able to sell at MU which decreases my risk.

I have also had results which mean my roll has risen up to 2k since I started posting here.

I get what you are saying about the turbos and the variance aspect of it all, I play these better, my game is more suited to these and tbh I enjoy them more. I will most likely subract the bigger bi hypers though.

Interested to hearing your suggestions of other sites. I refuse to play on iPoker and Party so maybe 888? Ftp is not an option until next year due to self exclusion.
