Hows it going everyone. I hope everyone is running good and kicking some ass at the tables

[IMG][/IMG]

Just break even at this point. I haven't been playing a whole bunch due to the fact i have finals and a ton of homework.

What has hurt me this week are tournament, i just love them but they are making my roll not reach maximum potential haha. Well as long as i do well in cash ill throw in some tourneys cause they are what i like to do, but hopefully we can run better haha.

Studying wise its been poor watched one runitonce video this week so need to improve on that.

Questions:
  • Should i study before or after i play? or both?
  • what can i do to make me a better poker player?
  • what is a good session length to take a break? for example: 2hours then 10 min break?
  • What are your session lengths looking like? I am interested to know how you guys plan out your poker day.

So please answer the questions if you want. I am really interested in you guys telling me what an average day for you is

Study ALWAYS regardless of anything.

Don't force yourself into playing.
Stop playing if you see tilt patterns coming up,try to work on improving it off the table.

If everything is going fine on the session, I like to take a small break every 2 hours or so.

Stats: in vpip/pr/3b/cb/fcb

CO:67/20/17/100/0 (15 hands)

MP:58/25/18/60/50 (40 hands)

My question is should i be 4betting pre? reason for not 4betting was i didn't want his worst hands to fold like KJ etc. Flop? cbet?

Turn: do i bet now? what am i representing that checks flop bets turn.. QJ?

river: standard i believe to good of a price to fold.

Thoughts would be appreciated i will post results after feedback. and more hands tonight.

    1. Please stop degenning.
    2. Just stop playing Mtt/SnG's completely.
    3. Keep playing cash games
    4. Stick to absolute strict BRM and move up/down stakes accordingly
    5. Remind yourself not to play any Mtt/SnG's even if you think you have overcome your degenning ways.
    6. Repeat steps 3-5.

    Also, gl op.

In your AKdd example, it could certainly be in your 4b range. It's strong enough that he can still call with worse, e.g. AQ, and AK benefits from the fold equity especially oop as you miss the flop so frequently.

Pity that the hand sample is too small to evaluate villains 3b range, but ideally you want to know his 3b/5b range is wide enough that you can call a 5b jam as obviously it sucks to have to fold AK pre.

A good rule of thumb is to have a 4b frequency of 15%. I.e. if UTG you open 14% of hands, then 4bet the top 2.1%.

Best advice for OP atm.I think you should follow it strictly.

That rule of thumb seems to only apply for tight ranges,I don't think we should be 4betting anywhere close to 15% of the PFR from late positions.

E.g. If we open as tight as 40% On BTN we don't want to be 4betting a 6% range.

If you're opening 40%, then you need to defend somewhere around a 22% range one way or the other against an aggressive 3-bettor to be unexploitable.

To a degree I think it's a matter of preference - do you choose to defend your opening range by calling more or 4-betting more.

But there are certainly a number of players I face who 4-bet that range from LP, as do I. Realise it's a polarised range though, so we're using it to chop off the bottom of the range that we'd otherwise have to call with in order to remain unexploitable. And clearly I'm not betting anywhere near that frequency against someone who 3bets like 3%.

I use Janda's book's sizing and go to 2.5x, so pretty small.

I'm tempted to go a bit bigger if I'm OOP to make it more expensive for V to see a flop, but don't have any numbers to say whether that is better or worse ev.

Even for 25nl? Im using A 20BI rule at the momment ,but was trying to figure out whats best for taking a shot. I feel like 25-30 could be good but too nitty for 25nl, i was thinking like 17BI for 25nl so 425$ and take a 3bi shot if i go back to 350$ i move back down . What do you Guys think?

I had the same degenning issues as you but instead of playing high buy-in mtt's, I would jump stakes and play well outside of my BR. So at the beginning of this year, I started fresh and deposited $200 and forced myself to play the entire month of January at 10NL, regardless of what my BR was. Ended the month at $1k which was well above my required BR to shot take 20NL, which would have been $400. I got made fun of, however I was happy that I was able to stick to BRM and I feel by doing that, has cured me of my degenning.

If you are trying to take poker seriously this time around, the #1 most important thing is good bankroll management. 20 BI's is still an aggressive rule, yet it's reasonable. I do not recommend you try a 17BI shot. You can easily lose 2BI's while playing your A game. Playing when you have 20BI's ($500) and dropping to 10NL at 15 BI's ($375) is a much better strategy for a degen such as yourself. It gives you breathing room and you won't have to constantly worry about your BR while at the tables had you tried at $425.

For 50NL I would suggest at least 25BI's before you shot take that. I personally used a 30BI rule for it. 2 months ago I tried, and was there for awhile, but had to drop down after a pretty bad downswing. Even though I was comfortable at 50NL, I rebuilt my roll at 20NL and still stuck to the 30BI rule for myself before moving back to 50NL which is where I'm currently at atm.
