STT grinder : On my way to becoming a professional poker player

HI guys, I am Hang and I play 9man stt primarily on stars.
This is my first PG&C thread. I start this thread mainly for motivating myself to work harder and keep on improving as a poker player.

A little background about myself :

I am 22, from Hong Kong and recently move to Guangzhou in China to live in a poker house with two other grinders.
I started playing poker about 3 years ago but never play and study seriously for the first 1-1.5 yrs or so.
I played DON as my main game when I first started playing and I shifted my main game to 9man stt about two years ago.

With the help of some of my biggest winnings ever in MTT, I finally move up to play the $15s at the beginning of this year.

Below are my results of $15 stts played this year (All are turbo KOs and around 10 or so are the normal speed.)

As you can see I am running about 220 buyins below EV, it really makes me frustrated sometimes especially when I am on a downswing/breakeven stretch.
But I guess nothing I can do except keeping on working hard to improve my game.

Long Term Goals :

I think one of my biggest leak is lack of motivation.
Often times, I will have many excuses for not playing and I rarely manage to put in some long sessions each day for 3 or more days continuously.
Usually, I will just play one day and take rest for 2-3 days.
So one of my long- term goal will be to get rid of my laziness and start having a more routine schedule for playing.

I have several other goals as well but as I am going to start my session very soon, I will just leave that for now and go back for updating later.

Goals for This moth :

As I am busy at preparation for moving out recently, I haven't played any for about 3 weeks.
In fact I just move in yesterday,
so I hope I can play as much volume as I can for the rest of the month in order to maintain my platinum star level on stars.

PS : My English isn't very good so hope you all understand what I am saying and please dun mind my grammar and spelling mistakes or whatever language mistakes.
But feel free to correct them for me at any time.

Re: STT grinder : On my way to becoming a professional poker player

So I play a 8.5 hour session last night.
Haven't played any long hour session for almost a month, I feel somewhat rusty about my game and that leaded to constant timeout during my last night's session.

At some point, I just feel like myself just clicking the buttons and not thinking at all and it's definitely far away from my A game.

Result wise, it is not so good but luckily I was still able to secure some profit.
Anyway, hopefully I can find back my A game and the feeling of grinding as soons as possible.

Here is yesterday's graph (Had to mix in some 7s due to the bad traffic of 15s.)

i assume HM doesnt include KOs into ev calculations, correct?
and does it track them properly ?

(and holy sh*t noticed that rake is lower, close to old 16$ % wise.)

yea HEM doesn't include bounties into ev calculations ,it just add up the whole bounties u receive when you knockout someone
and it also doesn't consider that you can get the bounties if you could have knocked someone out when you lose the flip.

I heard a good reg say that HEM probably underestimates your true ROI of KO STT but I am not a maths genius so I can't verify that.

Luckily, it does track all the bounties after the update early this year. Before that, I had to manually input all the bounties collected at the end of each session.

Well, I think the rake of KO should be the same as the normal one, shouldn't you exclude the bounties when you calculate the rake of a KO sng?

I heard some great player said that in order to get rid of the motivation problem, we have to treat playing poker as a real job. But it sounds very difficult for me as one of the big reason why I play poker is that i don't want to have a real job.

Also, I have bought "The Mental Game of Poker" , but I only have read some part of it, hopefully I can find some useful advice after I finish reading it.

Re: STT grinder : On my way to becoming a professional poker player

Was going to grind the whole night yesterday but I was a bit of sick and didn't feel very well, so I had to quit playing after I only played for 3-4 hours or so.
End up losing like $60 but it's okay and hopefully I can continue my grinding tonight.

Why you dont mix normal turbos with kos in order to have more volume?
How many tables do you play per time?sets or continuous?

I think you are a great player but i saw you many times joining a table with 4-5 heavy winning regs. This is why your variance is bigger than it should but yeah i know how it feels to run 220 bis bellow ev.It is really demotivating but if i havent a same downswing i wouldnt improve my game so much

I guess one of the big reason is that back to about 1 year ago when I was grinding the $6.5 9man turbo, I had very poor results and couldn't beat the game.
So I am very biased that I will do badly in the normal turbo one.

Another reason is that it will take me for quite a while to recognize all the regs of normal turbo and figure out their tendencies.

So I just stay away from the normal turbo one.
But because of the traffic of turbo KOs suck a lot lately, I guess I will have to mix in some normal turbo one and in fact I did mix some of them during my yesterday's session.

I play 16-20 tables continuously for a 6-8 hours session but lately the traffic of $15 turbo KOs suck a lot. So most time I will only have 10-13 tables going if I don't mix the $7 turbo KOs.

Thanks but I know I still have a far way to become a great player.

Since I play stacked on a 15 inch laptop so there is no space on my screen that I can place the lobby.
Often times I am so busy at playing, so I just click "Ctrl+S" to register another one when I bust out one and don't bother pulling out the lobby to game select.
But I know I should pay more attention to that especially if I want to mix the normal turbos in the future.

I guess it's just a little compensation for my running bad before but I certainly don't mind more of them coming

Re: STT grinder : On my way to becoming a professional poker player

So things didn't go well tonight played for a short session and
end up losing like $80.

I was intend to grind for whole night again,
but I had to abort my session because I couldn't sit in the same game with another Hong Kong regular.

I was able to sit in the same game with him before dun know
why that's suddenly such a restriction.

Even I email stars to tell them they can always check our history of playing against each other, I only get some copy and paste response.

That's such a real joke and once I stop playing, I lost the mood of grinding again so I went to grind some FIFA12 insted.

Hopefully everything will go well tomorrow.
