For some reason I randomly searched for this thread today and noticed the recent update. Ha, I always assume OPs go busto when going MIA, nice to see that didn't happen.
I learned that one of my more saavy opponents on Global Poker has a PG&C thread and it got me wanting to update my own thread for the first time in a while.
Looks like its been another 19 months since my last update! Wow! All the way back in September of 2019!
Since that time, things have continued to trend upwards for me. I'm still in Tucson, Arizona but the biggest news for me in that time is that I'm now engaged to be married to the same girl I met and talked about in this thread way back in February of 2015! My parents are already in the process of planning the wedding and it should be sometime in 2021.
As for poker, I spent the first half of 2019 playing on Global Poker and Ignition. I was able to work my way up to being a regular crusher in the 2/4nl and 3/6nl games while also playing 5/10nl if there was a fish in the lineup. I made $65k online in the first 6 months of 2019 before I headed off to WSOP. I was very proud of this figure as it came out to being about $110/hour. I estimate that works out to about 5-6bb/100.
Most of these profits were re-invested right back into the market, which I continue to do today. I would urge all serious poker professionals to do this - I'm really amazed at how few of my friends invest. From ages 21-25 I wasted so much money by not investing. Don't let that happen in your late 20s and 30s. I can only imagine the magnitude of regret would be exponential the longer you delay - I don't plan to find out, though.
Anyway, so then I went up to Las Vegas for the series where I proceeded to get nothing done. I got 20 hours into the Milly Maker before losing a very big stack QQ<KK AIPF. Cashing for $4500 was annoying and disappointing. Later in the series, after bricking the Main Event, I made a day3 in Little One Drop - again, I had a big stack but I made 1 enormous mistake (miscounted someones stack) that cost me. I was sniffing that $700k but only cashed for $4500. At least I got to play with Mike Denatle for hours and heard him whine for several minutes like a little baby about not wanting to be colored down.
So the series ends in disappointment but I am happy to get back home to my girl and my dog in Arizona. However, I realize that I really enjoy tournament poker! I'm getting good at it and I'm seeing how soft the pools are so I decide that I will spend the rest of 2019 grinding the circuit.
Boom! I win a $1100 Wynn Fall Classic event for $70k in October. In November, I get 4th in the Commerce Hold Em Series for $40k. (own dime everything) In January, after bricking the Hardrock WPT $3500, I fly up to Jacksonville real quick and get 5th in an $1100 at BestBet for another $13k. So at that point, I've won $115k in 4 months just traveling the circuit. My girl is like why u never home and im like ***** im makin that mo****in money.
I took her on a Christmas vacation to NYC, though, she loved it. She's always wanted to see the Rockefeller tree.
However, in February/March, the Coronavirus hits. NOT TO WORRY! For Global Poker and PokerBros, it wasnt a Coronavirus, it was a CoronaBOOM! The games were so ****ing sick - the best I have ever seen for online poker. Grinding 2.5/5 and 5/10 every day, 50 hours/week, I'm up $75k since the lockdowns and quarantines started - which works out to well over $200/hr and probably 8-10bb/hr.
My plans right now are to continue to grind Global Poker, PokerBros, and Ignition for as long as these lockdowns are ongoing. Once things get back to normal, I'll look to get back into some live tournaments. I'd love to win some WSOP circuit rings and some bracelets; I think I'm very capable.
Overall, the last couple years have been an absolute blast. I have not a single regret about pursuing poker. I have about $250k, I'm in love with a great girl, and I feel like I'm very very skilled at my craft. This all is why I got into poker.
Nice work. Congrats. I wonder if some new fun players are being introduced to online poker and will stick around for a while. Could this be a longer term resurgence, or just during the lockdown?
