Re: SLO – Slowly Learning Omaha

had a small session and lost 5buyins rapidly, then won 3.

had a few coolers and also i played some non-nut draws aggressively then i hit paying off my opponent with my stack

after that happened a few times i played a decent game.

very proud that i didnt tilt off my bankroll

Re: SLO – Slowly Learning Omaha

Hey guys, i have been putting in a lot(well a lot for me) of volume in PLO2 to get more comfortable with starting hands and postflop play. The experience has been going well but i cant say the same for the results. over 6000 hands i am winning 3.19bb/100.

Although the results arent too great I think i am prepared to re-evaluate my goals to now focus on moving up.

My goals at the beginning were:

[x]Spend 20hrs a week on Omaha
[x]Play 7hrs a week cash game at .01/.02
[x]13hrs will be studying the game/reading articles/watching videos/reading hands on the forum
[x]Only play 1-2 tables till I feel confident at the current level
[x]Stick to good (nitty) BR management (50-100buy-ins)
[80% of time]Take poker seriously, not just spew money
[x]Think of poker in long term, no excuse to tilt over luck

Now my new goals are:
play 5000 hands a week
review HHs once per day (big wins and big losses)
keep taking poker seriously
no tilting
dont put stack in with 2nd nuts or less(may this be too nitty?)

Re: SLO – Slowly Learning Omaha

good luck with this op. Have you played plo lots? I think you are better off playing more then studying. I feel you get a better grasp as you will run into more situations and learn to to react to them better in play. Oh and at these stakes I think folding seconds nuts is a pretty good idea. I too have been losing a lot because of my light calls, and thin value bets.
Also, how are you playing aces? Do cbet when you are multiway with them or just check back unless you have set/draws/dry board?

Thank you I haven't played much too much apart from just over 6k hands online. yes i agree, i am going to spend more time playing as i have learnt a lot more about the game playing than learning.

The way i play aces varies according to various factors. I don't cbet in a multiway pot if i have the bare aces with no draws. i figured it is a waste of money at PLO2 to cbet with just AAxx no draws. if it is heads up however i will usually take a stab and hope for the best.

Re: SLO – Slowly Learning Omaha

Hey Arxontas

Thanks for the post on my PGC thread. I see we are pretty much starting at the same place with PLO, so it would be good to compare how we progress. Perhaps we could have some prop bets to make things interesting.

Might be useful to post some hands up on here for review. I'll give you a point of view for what it is worth.

Do you find it a real struggle to work out what is a raising hand as opposed to a calling hand. I am even more lost when it comes to deciding what I should re-raise!

It's all a big learning curve.

Would be interesting to get an update on your bank roll every so often as well.

Re: SLO – Slowly Learning Omaha

I havent really been in interesting hand spots as i am just playing ABC poker at these lower limits. but when i find some i will post them.

hahahaha im not much of a gambler in that sense and have never made a prop bet.

At first i did find it a struggle to determine if my hand was a calling hand/raising/re-raising hand, but then i read jeff hwangs book which helped me gain a bit of knowledge regarding how to play hands pre-flop. i highly recommend it when starting off.

Thanks for the advice. i may just do that in my next update post

Re: SLO – Slowly Learning Omaha

Hey man gl! I'm doing the same thing and got my own PGC thread

If you wanna talk hands send me a PM, I'm putting together a study group- all merge players at the moment so would be interesting to get some pokerstars players on.

I've recently really got into psychology, I'm curious what you've been studying related to the subject?

things are going well. havent played much at the moment due to uni starting this week. have a lot of organizing and planning to do to make sure I will stay on top of things for the semester. At first i didnt like zoom, but i think it has helped my game a lot due to the volume i can put without having to sacrifice not being able to see all the action.

That would have sucked. goodluck for next time

I have been studying a variety of sub topics. To name a few;

Memory and cognition, perception, learning, decision making(very interesting for poker), doing research in psychology(statistics), health and lifespan, developmental, personality

There are a few more but i have forgotten as i cant remember much of what i learnt in 1st year and 2nd year lol

What type of psych are you reading about?

Thanks, gl to you too

Re: SLO – Slowly Learning Omaha

Bankroll is down to $29

I had to take out money for university fees. However, I am being sponsored in a HU live house game where I am going against a person who thinks they are good at poker but they arent.

If i win this i will score about $300. I have a bit of HUSNG experience and i think i am the favorite in this match.

Results will be known tomorrow, wish me luck

after 7k-8k hands online i am up $7.65 at PLO2
