Simplicity8: The Poutine Grind

Mmm poutine! For those of you don't know what poutine is, it's basically a canadian dish that consists of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy. It's delicious!

Anyways, I'm Simplicity8 on PokerStars. I achieved Supernova Elite back in 2010 and blogged about my journey here in PGC. I planned on achieving it again in 2011, but unfortunately the DOJ had other plans. I decided to wait and see what would happen while I grinded out live poker. Eventually I decided to move to Canada with a couple of guys I've known online for awhile.

I've been up and running on PokerStars since September. At first I was on a limited roll that a friend loaned me and I wasn't sure what I wanted to play. In my confused state I ended up playing everything from headsup to 180mans. Here's a look at my sharkscope breakdown for the month:

Those results include FPPs and somehow sharkscope was missing games/profit. I was really disappointed with my results for the amount of hours I put in, but I did earned $6,900 on the month while maintaining Supernova Elite. So it wasn't that bad of a startup month. For October I've decided to stick to mostly 180mans while using 45mans to fill in games as well as 18mans to warmup/cooldown sessions.

I'm only here in Canada for 6 months so I gotta make it count! My goals for October are:
  • Play at least 200 hours
  • Study at least 20 hours
  • Make at least $15,000 profit (including FPPs)
  • Make fewer mistakes/misclicks while playing
  • Finish reading "The Mental Game of Poker"

So far I'm on pace to hit my profit goal:

That's it for now. If you wanna read more feel free to check out my blog.

Would like to know how to practice winning flips, I'm currently only winning about 50% and I'd like to improve, do you have advice?

La poutine désigne communément un mets d’origine québécoise traditionnellement constituée de frites et de fromage en grains de cheddar frais que l’on recouvre d’une sauce chaude de type « barbecue » ou sauce brune (au choix).

It's all about envisioning what card you'd like to see. Sometimes I envision the wrong one

Foux du fafa... Foux du fafafafa... Foux du fafa... Aiyaa

Seems like I've seen you a lot more than your 180s played this week suggest... GL with it all, maintaining SNE pace will be a challenge, esp with just mostly 180s

Yeah, I've seen a lot of you too. I'm not trying to get SNE as Stars didn't want to extend my chase period. Just trying to maintain it which is 50k VPPs a month. I wrote earlier in my blog that it didn't seem possible, but so far it looks like I'm on pace.

Re: Simplicity8: The Poutine Grind

I'm not entirely sure how accurate sharkscope is, but it's what I'm going to be using to show my results. I'll probably do a more accurate in-depth look at the end of each month.

Some drama came into my life mid-session which caused me to get off my game. So I decided to end my session early. I was only able to play 4 hours yesterday which were very inefficient. Luckily I was able to get 2nd in a 35/180 which saved my day from disaster. Not the greatest start to this thread, but it's not that bad. I've been playing every day since I've been here so some rest probably did me some good.

Re: Simplicity8: The Poutine Grind

Congrats on the move and gl with the grind! Couple questions...

What did or do you use to study and get better? SNGwiz etc or just studying your own game and playing around with pokerstove?

How many tables do you play at once and how long is your normal session?

Have you decided which games youre going to play mostly?
