Alright guys I'm taking the plunge and quitting my job to go full time playing poker!! Pretty pumped about it!!

Background: I played full time on stars grinding the 180s for about 8 months before black Friday turned my world upside down, ps name is bluffingolfa if anyone wants to look it up.

Once black Friday happened I tried playing live for about 2 months but ran extremely bad and my life roll was pretty low bc of to make boozing hookers and blow (really just to much drinking and eating out at nice places 4 times a week).

So I ended up getting a job at a vw store selling cars, had no experience in sales or in cars but did very well at it, made 40k the rest of 2011 and 70k last year. Solid money but good God it's a rough job, dealing with lots of idiots and spending most of my life at the dealership. Most work days are 10 hours and it's mandatory to work every Saturday from 8-8 but close it's not set, if you have a customer here you stay till you sell the car. I've gotten home just before midnight a couple times.

Really tough to have any social life or anything else go on in your life working at a dealership. So for me personally I have weighed the money vs time for a while and have decided it is time to take a stand and do something that I'm not only good at but I love.

Rules: This is going to be a month long trial period for playing live, I have to make 3500 profit in poker over the next month for me to continue playing full time. I have a 4k roll and will be playing 1/2 mainly to start, once I have a 6k roll them I can play 1/2 and once I have 300 profit whether I am in for 200 or 600 I may then move up to 2/5 if the games look decent. This may be done unless roll gets below 4500 then i have to go back to the beginning roll requirements.

Once I have my roll at 8k I will then be able to take a 5 buyin shot at 2/5, if 5 buying are lost then I must go bak to the above paragraph to rebuild.

I will mainly be playing at winstar and Choctaw with the occasional 1/2/5 home game if the games are good. To cut down on expenses of a 70 mile drive in a truck I will be hitching a ride on the bus with all the senior citizens. Plus you get $15 free play in slots that I can tilt degen on any bad sessions lol

I also have half of my action taken in any mtts that I play and 30% if I want to give it at 2/5 to help reduce larger swings when I move up in stakes.

Plan B: I would not be doing this if I didn't have a backup plan. Yesterday I talked to one of my old managers at the dealership who works for a different one. He said that if I ever need a job he will have a spot for me so I won't have to worry about my next meal if i go busto. There is a plan c with another manager I know in case plan b falls thru. If both plan a, b, and c fail then it is very easy to get a job at another dealership if you have had any experience in the industry and even easier if you have shown success with that experience.

I will update this thread as much as I can, hopefully at least after every session. The guy who will be taking some of my action if I decide to give it deals at a really big game, 5/10/25 where there is typically 150-400k on the table. Will hopefully be able to play in that game in 6 months time (little to optimistic imo).

I want to be an open book in this thread, so if you have any questions about my play, personal life, want pics of gf I'll do what I can to accommodate.

3500 over 1 month coupled with the words "have to" sounds like you need rungood mode so you can do $20/h over 175hrs.

how much time are you dedicating to poker outside of the casino?

would be interested in crazy stories in car dealerships if you can share.

Once you get a roll maybe you should play tournaments since you have a SNG background.

Not really feeling a ton of pressure to make the 3500, this isn't going to be I have to or else I will starve. Got a decent life roll that can withstand a couple months of unemployment. Would just be nice to get off tot a quick start.

Time wise I am going to play every Saturday and Sunday at least, with several Friday sessions mixed in, Monday's off and Thursday's off.

I'll get into some dealership stories when I'm on a computer an not my phone. Got a couple decent ones, had a French guy here who is gunna be the focal point of most of them, his name is Olivier pronounced o-liv-e-a. Really big dbag but some hilarious stories.


Yeah I am sef going to be playing the Sunday mtt at winstar, got 4th in that on super bowl Sunday. Great structure for a weekly mtt.

To be honest I really like Choctaw bc of the $300 max instead of $200, from my experience it makes short stackers buy in a little more so the table plays deeper and leaves room for more play than at winstar. Raising 10-12 4 callers and c betting 30-35 has a much bigger effect on stack to pot ratios and puts you in wierd spots on the turn a lot.

But winstar you can't beat the traffic

Nice. I also finished in 4th the time I played that tournament. They had changed the structure back in November and I agree it's a nice structure. I wouldn't waste my time on any of the other weekly Winstar tournaments though.

Ok so here is a story about one of the sales guys

So this guy is one of the rudest, most condescending person I've ever met. He treats everyone like garbage and gets away with everything from management. He sold 25-30 cars a month with 15-20 of them being gifts from the house.

There was a black couple that came in once and he asked if they were here to take some auction cars, they said no they were looking to purchased a pre owned car and see what we had to offer, he then asked if they had bad credit, they replied a little shocked and said that they actually had good credit, he replies back saying that you are the type of people that look like you have terrible credit. Lolz

Anyway he has this couple come in and they ended up buying a car from him, there was a complaint from the wife bc during the test drive while she was driving Olivier put his hand on her leg and started caressing it (professional right?). But for some idiotic reason they ended buying a car from this guy. About a week after that the husband comes tearing into the dealership demanding to talk to the gm, on his way to the gms office he took a bee line to Oliver's office and almost put him thru a wall. It turns out that Olivier had bought the wife a pair of $500 shoes and had called an left 7-8 messages and had been texting her non stop. One of the texts read "I hope you enjoy the shoes, they were very expensive, I would like to know how you are going to pay me back for them and I am not talking about money".

He got a slap on the wrist for that one.

About 2 weeks after that incident the police found a CC that had been stole from the lot in his parking garage, as soon as they got the car to te dealership it was sent to detail to be wiped clean. The police investigation was dropped at the gms wishes since we had recovered the car.

Im pretty much doing the same in the east coast. Im playing at a couple hone games and foxwoods. Will deff be following. Good luck at the tables.

Good luck bro!! I live in Austin and play 90% underground but frequent to winstar and Choctaw.. I hope you crush and move up quick. 4k IMO is a tuff starting roll but live 1-2 swings can be minimized compared to playing online.. If you truly love poker and are always learning and studying. ( sounds like you do) I say once you have 3-5 good sessions at 1-2 play 2-5.. Less rec. players and more opportunities to win real pots. Better players understand plays and have a closer fold button than the clowns at 1-2 ....

Thanks man, yeah I'd like to get 1k profit under me and them once I get up 300 at a 1/2 table I'll transfer to a 2/5 table, minimizing risk while maximizing profit.

Gl man! 3k in 1/2 in a month is a tall order unless u run real good and Putin a ton of hours. At 10/bb p/h that's still 150 hours. If ou can really beat it for 10/bb p/h, you should move up real quick.

Also don't nderestimate how grueling it is. Read tommy Angelo, if you havent already.

Thanks!! I made just under 4k in 80 hours last month, absolutely killed it!! I didn't feel like I was running absolutely amazing, actually had a back to back session totaling -1500. But I don't expect that to be the norm, if I can have half that bb/hr I should be good. I'm planning on grinding 140-180 hours in the month. Always been gold at putting in decent length sessions, I'm gunna try and just put a ton of hours in starting out so I can move up to 2/5 pretty quick
